Nose Piercing & CPAP

Post by Starlette » Sun Jan 13, 2019 3:14 pm

Greetings everyone,
This past Thursday 1/10/2019, I had my nose pierced. There is a reason why I did it. On the norm, I never thought of having it done. Rather than retelling the story, I’ve copied and pasted what I posted in FB on Thursday 1/10/2019:

If you ever wanted to "see" what blackmail looks like, allow me to show you....

Mom:. Has always wanted me have my nose pierced.

Me: My brother, Garfield, purchase an iTouch Curve wearable watch for my mother for Christmas. Since Christmas, I have been after her to wear that watch. She wouldn’t do it. It’s a different kind of watch. The biggest and nicest feature is that she can now dial out from her Google contacts, receive calls and talk!. It has always been a big pet peeve of my brother, me, and every person that knows her that she DOES NOT answer her phone!!! If anybody wants to find out where my mother is, I am the one that gets called.

So once again today, mom asked if I would get my nose pierced, this time I said yes. However, I told her that if I get my nose pierced, she in turn must wear her new Christmas watch.

So on that note, this is what blackmail looks like.

One last note, IT HURT!!! And do you want to know what sucks even more? How in the world do I blow my little nose!!! 😠😳😠😳😠

I don’t know if nose piercing is the same for everyone. So I will briefly tell you mine. By the way, I’m unfamiliar with the language regarding nose piercing:

I went to the nose piercing person that mom went to. The nose-jewel reminds me of girls wearing training bras. This one creates the hole, and big enough for the actual nose-jewel to slip through easily. I was told to wear this for about a week, then to return for the actual nose-jewel. What surprised me the most is that this one’s tip that is in the nose is as sharp as a needle, which makes me afraid to wearing my mask.

So the questions I wish to start out are these:
Is there a special nose-jewel that I should consider purchasing being the fact that I wear a CPAP?
Do you take it out when going to bed?

Just wanted to drop in and say Hi Scarlett...good to see you knocking around.
Sorry I have no input on nose piercing stuff...I never could muster up the balls to do it myself.

From what I have seen though...there should be no need to remove it at night and I would simply use something small but classy as a stud.
That way it won't be in the way and will look good.

For sure don't remove it until well healed or it will seal up as it heals.

Thank you Pugsy. When you talk of healing, what do you mean?

For those have nose-jewelry, do you have any recommendations of what studs to wear for one who is a CPAPer?

Healing as the wound hole healing...like if you pierce your ears...there's a hole/wound created by the piercing that needs to heal.
Without something holding it open the hole will close up as part of the healing process.

OK, I understand.

But, how do I wear my CPAP without discomfort from their nose piercing? There is no ball at the end of this one that I’m wearing, it is rather a point. I am very much afraid to put on my CPAP.

Hope you learned your lesson! Back in 1993, I bet a guy the Houston Rockets would not win the championship. Well.... we won! My end of the bet was for me to roll around in the ditch in front of my house. Dang it was worth it! 8)

Bet something that don't last.... like a tattoo…..

Hi Starlette... both my daughter and grandD got nose piercings this past summer. Daughter got a small stud and grandD a ring. Both were instructed to use a salt water rinse and something else (don't remb) every night for a full three months. They don't have apnea but I don't know what they would have done if they had to wear any type of mask; they were both very sore the first month.

Thinking lanolin might help but I would ask the person who did the piercings and/or your medical doctor. The last thing you want to do is get it infected. Good luck.
