Where to recycle/dispose of older CPAP machines?
Any suggestions on where to recycle or dispose of older CPAP machines? I've accumulated a few machines over the years. Thank you. -Chuck-
Re: Where to recycle/dispose of older CPAP machines?
Better than the Recycle option, do not acquire more of anything you need and plan on using everything up. By doing that less Landfill Treasure will be built, cutting pollution, waste and creating a better world in General. Jim

If they are recent enough to be useful, Pugsy sometimes collects machines to give or loan to those who cannot afford one. I am not sure whether or not secondwindcpap.com buys machinesChuck Connors wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 12:08 pmAny suggestions on where to recycle or dispose of older CPAP machines? Think Red cross, or homeless shelters, if it still works.
Donate to a tech school, if it can be parted out.

Depends on hours of use and how old and how much inventory that might already have in that particular model.prodigyplace wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 12:34 pmI am not sure whether or not secondwindcpap.com buys machines
A while back I asked about low hour PR S1 760 I had just to get an idea what they might pay for that model...and they weren't even buying any more 760s at that time. Was told to check back later.

Re: Where to recycle/dispose of older CPAP machines?
Secondwind only buys machines with less than 2000 hours...preferably lower.

Re: Where to recycle/dispose of older CPAP machines?
Just for everyone's information...my PR S1 model 760 only had 600 hours on it when they said they weren't interested.
So even if less than 2 K hours...they aren't always in the market.
For sure though if more than 2 K hours...they won't be interested.
If someone wants to donate a machine and it is a machine that I can check out and verify....if someone just wants it out of the house and will ship it to me for free....I will put it with the other donated stuff and then find a new home for it later.prodigyplace wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 12:34 pmPugsy sometimes collects machines to give or loan to those who cannot afford one
I would rather not have to mess with machines though (I just don't have the room to store much)....cut out the middle man (me) and just offer it up for free now on the forum....
but if no takers...I will take it assuming it is a machine that I can work with. I don't want machines that I can't work with....like really old dinosaurs.

List them here on the forum (specific models and blower/run hours).Chuck Connors wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 12:08 pmAny suggestions on where to recycle or dispose of older CPAP machines? I've accumulated a few machines over the years. Thank you. -Chuck-
There may be a number of forum members who may benefit from having some spares or backup machines......or, there may be some who even need a primary machine and can't afford one.

Re: Where to recycle/dispose of older CPAP machines?
With my father's passing... I've found quite a few "REALLY REALLY OLD" CPAP's My father tended to keep stuff.
Think older then this.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... -plus-cpap
I would be very surprised - if these even work let alone if anyone would want or accept one of these relics for anything other then display in a medical museum. I still like my idea of modifying a CPU cooler to accept a CPAP hose - kind of a forced air cooler. It may be completely pointless but still - better then throwing these things away... maybe drop them off at a electronics recycling center.

Re: Where to recycle/dispose of older CPAP machines?
Goof proof, that’s not the question. My machine is used up, can’t be used anymore. I can’t donate it, it has too many hours on it. I’m trying to keep it out of the trash. Looking for suggestions, not a lecture
Re: Where to recycle/dispose of older CPAP machines?
Some of these machines are what they are... if you find supper old CPAP machines I'd be curios as to what the best thing to do with them is as well.
I have my fanciful ideas of turning them into silly pet projects that are not practical - but ultimately, what do you do with machines that are no longer good enough to be used to treat a medical condition with out pitching them into a dumpster or your trash?
I have one CPAP machine that I know doesn't push out prescribed pressure - and it's basic CPAP - useless to me at this point. I also have a very old machine that I think pushes out prescribed pressure but it's also basic CPAP - also no good for me, I've only kept it because it runs off of a car battery in an emergency and that's better then nothing.
As I've been helping my mother with my family's house I've come across at least 3 insanely old CPAP machines that belonged at one point to my Father. I'm at a loss as to what I should do with them to be frank. I've joked about using the blower motor to create some contraption but in all honesty I most likely won't have the time to tinker with such a project and I'll only wind up hording it like my Dad did... Ideally I need to get them out of my Mother's house and get the two supper old machines out of mine.
I figured taking them to an electronics recycler would be my best bet.
Keep in mind - what I'm talking about are machines that are in my opinion no longer of any medical value. I would never throw a working machine away that I thought could help treat another person, that would be very wasteful.
Rest well,
Gryphon

In that case, just treat it like any electronics recycling waste.
