Well, fwiw, I also use a Eson mask and have noticed that those holes turn black on the regular as well. Since it’s not a filter, and just a diffuser for the stream of exiting air I usually peel a layer off the fiber pad and use it a few more times. But I’ve always thought “man, I must be breathing in a lot of dirt or something - yuck”
Im glad that someone necro-posted to revive this thread because I see OP had it turning black using a resmed. I’ve been more paranoid about the black on that diffuser pad ever since the Phillips recall. Reviving this post offered some welcome relief with the timing.

You can wash the diffuser material.Firemonkey wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 10:32 pmI usually peel a layer off the fiber pad and use it a few more times.

I have the same issue. I have never used vinegar until today - only soapy water. I'll try vinegar for a while in case it is mould.
I discovered that the diffuser filter is removable (in the resmed 'pillows' thing). I used one of those plastic toothpicks with dental floss on it. You have to be careful, as it is delicate. I gave it a good scrub with straight washing up liquid and a small soft toothbrush. That god rid of about 80% of it before I got bored. I also flipped it over. Hopefully vinegar will deal with the rest.
