Hey Pap'ers,
In my search for the best mask I had the following criteria after watching various youtube video review plus my own experience and needs.
Here is my exhaustive list of criteria:
1. Quick, easy re-attachment. Especially in the dark.
2. No vent blast (Resmed N20 - I'm talking about you)
3. No nasal ridge or other facial marking (ones that last more than 20mins)
4. Microfibre (or similarly soft) straps
5. Multi-angle swivel hose attachment
6. Great seal when I toss and turn, sleeping on my sides
7. Comfortable
8. Can easily read in bed
As mentioned above, the N20 met most of the criteria except for red marks on my nose, and a jet blast shooting at my wife when I faced her.
Tried the AirFit F20. Meets most of the requirements except Comfort, Seal and Reading.
I experienced itchy nose with this. I'm guessing it was a build up of humidity and turned Climate control humidity to 4 on the Airsense 10 Autoset but still irritated. I also found that in order for a consistent seal, I had to clamp it tight to stop leaks when I tossed & turned. Not comfortable when pressing hard on my face. The seal breaks occasionally when I turn on my side as the firm memory-foam pillow I have pushes against it. As for reading, I can only read from one of my eyes. The mask blocks the view from the other eye.
I was curious about the AirTouch F20 apparently being ideal... at a monthly cost. So I purchased a 3 pack and tried it out.
The AirTouch cushion's plastic portion is more flexible than the AirFit, and it still has an inflating silicone portion to the unit. The memory foam portion is only about 10mm thick and is attached to the silicone membrane. Overall, it feels and looks smaller on my face when fitted.
First night was hell. I hardly slept. The claims that it doesn't need to be strapped tight only apply to back sleepers who don't toss & turn. I set it up snug with the APAP machine blasting to test for a good seal. During the night I had several large leaks and a blasting APAP that woke me up.
Next day, I watched Resmed's videos on this mask to learn how to optimise it. To set it up better, I had to lift it higher on the ridge of my nose. This blocks view even more so reading is worse. Also suggests to pull it away from face when having a leak to reseal it.
Over the next few nights I tried different strap tensions - none of which made for an all night seal. I found that I had to have the straps quite tight which went against the comfort benefit. I still have to switch off the machine during the night to reseat the cushion a few times which is making me tired the next day.
Reading my SleepyHead results shows I'm getting MORE hypopneas and Obstructive apneas. The automated pressures are now reaching much higher, and of course, the leaking. I believe these issues are due to mask needing to be tighter and the memory foam is constricting my nose. I'm also finding that it's making my mouth open because the cushion is applying a lateral force towards my chin when the air pressures get higher. Last night I drooled because of that.
So overall, a negative experience. The only positive I've found is I don't get an itchy nose & face. I think I'll go back to the AirFit...

Re: My review on Resmed AirTouch F20 & AirFit F20 masks
I use an Airtouch F20 but I also have a padacheek liner. It basically keeps my mouth shuts and gets me to breathe through my nose. The real trick is getting the straps adjusted which can take a week or so.

Why do you need the Pad A cheek if you're using the AirTouch which has memory foam padding already?
