Muscle relaxant raising my AHI!?

Post by mets123 » Mon Apr 01, 2019 5:56 am

I have been taking a muscle relaxant for the past week and have noticed my ahi has been increasing. Usually have average of 1.0 and have had readings of of 2.5 and as high as 6.5
If this is a direction correlation and if I am on this medication for a while does it make sense to raise my minimum pressure?
Also anyone have similar issues with a muscle relaxant?
Thanks

What are your current pressure settings?

It depends on what type of events make up your increase in AHI

Muscle relaxers are notorious for causing OSA to worsen and increase the need for more pressure. My sleep doctor once told me that she would rather me take an opiate for pain during the night than a muscle relaxer.

I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.

Unfortunately I have neck and shoulder issues so am taking an opioid and muscle relaxant at night. If the muscle relaxant is short term should I bother changing my min pressure or leave things alone?
Thanks for your help guys!

If short term for the muscle relaxant and the worse the AHI is around 5 or 6....I would just live with it.

It's very possible that if you aren't sleeping so great from the pain that some of those events aren't real anyway.

Thanks for your advice Pugsy.
I will keep you informed if I will be on the medication longer then maybe a change in settings might be advisable.

More pressure seems like the solution. I know calcium can help me sleep better, probably because it helps muscles contract but that would probably give you more cramps so I don't think it's a solution.
Instead of Sleep apnea it should be called "Sleep deprivation, starving of oxygen, being poisoned by high CO2 levels, damaging the body and brain while it's supposed to be healing so that you constantly get worse and can never get healthy Apnea"
