Travel questions 4 a bipap user

Post by Hobbes116 » Sun Apr 07, 2019 1:39 pm

I have been using ResMed aircurve 10 for about 5 yrs. I have a 22 day trip coming up in 14 days. Today I test packed everything and I would like to get a smaller unit. So here are my questions; 1. can I go from a bipap to a cpap auto machine, what am I gaining vs losing. 2. I have not seen or dealt with the folks that prescribed my machine. I use a different local product provider. Will I have any issue getting my prescription to buy a travel unit online? Any help or suggestions whould be of great help.

What was the reason you were prescribed a bilevel machine vs a CPAP machine? You should always have a copy of your prescription for situations such as this.

I had not seen my CPAP doctor in 4 years - had to go see them to get a prescription for a travel unit. Can't get one without a current prescription. Also most insurance wont pay for a travel unit (USA)

@ crazydiamonds my insurance pays for nothing till i hit deductible even on durable medicals so that was not q surprising. Will do they make u do another sleep study or can they just look at the data on my machine.

Get a copy of the summary of your original study - it's your legal right.

Can you answer the question below?

@Lsat I don't know why I was prescribed a bipap over a cpap. I have never asked and the reason was never explained. Since reading the replies to my post, I have a call into my Doctor and hope to hear back from him by tomorrow. This is a question I will be asking.

I have a bipap machine. My prescribed pressure and the pressure support I get on exhale are higher than what you receive with a regular cpap machine. One of those travel machines would not work for me.

What are the settings on your current machine? This might help us know if a travel machine would work for you or not.

Per my doc it is 13/10. I asked if there was a % amount but he did not see one.

It looks like you have IPAP of 13 and EPAP of 10. This would be the same as a CPAP machine set for pressure of 13 with a 3 cm EPR.

I was looking at the z2 and the transcend. Both autos. I see the transcend has an exhalation that will go up to three. I'm reading about the z2 next. If anyone has suggestions for me to look at I'm open. I just want to order soon so I can use it here and make sure it will work for me before, i leave.

I went with the transends auto with ezex. First night went ok, but pressure was too low. Brought it into my sleep center and they set me up yo my Rx. Three nights and I'm happy with it. The noise level is of some issue to my wife but she will not begoing on my trip so no problem. Thank you for the info to help me get this puzzle of getting a cpap for this trip.
