Used petroleum jelly to better my mask seal..but then realized petroleum will break down my mask. Any alternatives?
Used petroleum jelly to better my mask seal..but then realized petroleum will break down my mask. Any alternatives?
I was getting annoyed at side sleeping and having leaks on my Brevida. I hate the sound of leaks and I don't like the air waking me up. I like it really quiet when I sleep, but I'm even able to hear the otherwise quiet Airsense 10.
I did some research and came across Ayr gel and something called CPAP Chap Moisture Therapy Face Cream (https://www.amazon.com/CPAP-Chap-Moistu ... r=1-3&th=1).
All I want is the seal to be better so I don't have to constantly readjust for the mask to go silent.
Which of the above two items (or something else altogether) would be best for my purpose?
I don't get bloody noses or anything.

Mask liners were a game changer for me when I was using a FFM.

Look at Padacheek.com for liners.

I'm not sure of your application, but if you want a substitute for petroleum jelly than won't harm you or your mask, you could try a lanolin cream. Lansinoh is favorite brand here. It's a nipple cream for nursing mothers. A little goes a very long way. It can be found online or in the baby section of stores.

You definitely don't want to use petroleum jelly in a situation where you could be breathing it in. Here's what could happen if any vaporizes and winds up in your lungs: https://www.mayoclinic.org/petroleum-je ... q-20057784

Maybe your real problem is your bed pillow.zoomzoom wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 12:41 amI was getting annoyed at side sleeping and having leaks on my Brevida. I vote for the mask liner.
For immediate use, tear one out of a Viva paper towel.
Start big, trim down until it works.

You might very well be right. I am using a MyPillow. I like it because I can wash it every other week. I am willing to try something like this (https://www.apriadirect.com/contour-cpa ... leep-apnea) -- linking to Apria, I hope that's OK! There is also a buckwheat pillow for the same price: https://www.apriadirect.com/snugglehose ... illow-case . The cpap Contour pillow has little cutouts for the hose so perhaps it won't get snagged as I'm tossing or turning, so that might help keep everything in place.Wulfman... wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 10:28 pmMaybe your real problem is your bed pillow.

What exactly does the liner do? It is my understanding it just a comfort thing for your cheeks so the straps don't bother you. Am I mistaken? Is it supposed to hold the mask in place ("sealed") or something?chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 10:49 pmI vote for the mask liner.

Wow, glad I only used it once. Jeez, that's crazy!SnoringInOregon wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 10:09 pmYou definitely don't want to use petroleum jelly in a situation where you could be breathing it in. I have read this recommendation a few times. Do you think they'd work better than the two products I mentioned in the OP. The Ayr gel I've also seen recommended and the Chap cream was just something I found on amazon.Jay Aitchsee wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 6:21 amI'm not sure of your application, but if you want a substitute for petroleum jelly than won't harm you or your mask, you could try a lanolin cream. They shouldn't have any impact for sealing for the brevida, though, right? Maybe I am mistaking what mask liners actually do (I think they just provide comfort to the cheek area, right?)

No, sorry, not on a nasal pillow.

There are some ..."things"...that can be wrapped round nasal interfaces to help with comfort/seal - I'm not familiar with your mask, but you might be able to construct something out of T-shirt fabric that helps. The trick is to put the fabric like a gasket between the silicone and skin.
