Crackling sound when tube flexes

Post by bob_hill » Thu Apr 25, 2019 4:20 pm

I'm using a ResMed AirSense 10 with a ClimateLineAir tube connected to an AirFit P10. After using the P10 for a few weeks, I notice that its tube makes a crackling sound when I compress the tube (longitudinally) and then allow it to return to its relaxed position. It sounds like there's something sticky coating the tube. I've been very careful to keep it clean.

I'm on my third P10 now. They have all done this after a few weeks of use. They seem to work just fine. Am I not cleaning it properly? Or is this just the nature of the plastic they use?

Have you not asked the DME about them?

welcome to the zoo! i'm a bit confused-is it the tubing you're having trouble with? or the p10? or both?

inquiring minds want to know.

Mine does the same thing after a while. I think it's just the plastic... since I've been on the same tube for about three years (it still works, why throw it away?) I've just been ignoring the noise :)

I use an insulated hose cover, and hose motion noise is just not a problem. I've never had a heated hose, but with the "jacket" i have no rainout, even on cool/cold nights.

Three possible solutions:
1: Rinse thoroughly after cleaning. (Could be soap residue)
2: Avoid lengthwise compression of the tube. (Why do that anyway?)
3: Invest in a new hose--pitch the noisy one.

I'm having the exact same issue. I would like to know if anyone else who is experiencing this also suffers from gerd. (Acid reflux).
I'm curious if gases from the stomach could be somehow eroding the delicate plastic of the small hose.

No way.
The plastics are chemically neutral.
Replace the hose--it's getting old.

If I was to replace as soon as the crackling started, I'd be replacing every month.

The "crackling" you hear may be water in the hose. This is caused by condensation. The room temperature is cooler than the warm moist air in the tube. This can be fixed in most cases by insulating the hose with a hose cover or getting a heated hose. Sometimes reducing the humidity level or increasing the room temperature will help.

My old tube is sitting on my dresser for about 2 months. Its dry and crackling. I cut it open and can physically feel the inside of the tube. Its sticky. This is my third tube doing this.
Is there a way to post a small video on here?

It is probably best to not wash the tube at all.
Most soaps contain extraneous ingredients that can build up or get sticky.
Color, fragrance, and other additives are not there to CLEAN!

And there it is.

SoClean uses Ozone.

Ozone is incompatible with many rubbers and plastics and causes it to breakdown sooner.

BTW, ozone is also incompatible with your lungs.
