Dreamwear Full Face or Amara View?

Post by dbreweur » Fri Jul 05, 2019 7:02 pm

I've been looking into getting a new FFM that does NOT leave that "lovely" red triangle across my face every night. Unfortunately, when I switched from plain medicaid to a managed care plan, I went from being able to get a new mask every six months to getting one just once a year. I just got a new F10 in May so this baby would be coming out of my pocket (thankfully this site has monthly payment plans)

I'm trying to decide between the newer Dreamwear Full Face or the Amara View (the latter seems to have better ratings, but I was a fan of the dreamwear nasal pillow before switching to a ffm as a mouth breather).

If y'all could share your experiences with either one, I would appreciate it.

Also, to those who have the dreamwear, couple questions: Is the frame the same as for the nasal pillows? (I'd be getting a new frame, but at least I'd have an idea of the proper size to order) How would one go about measuring their head to get the right size?

G'day, I own the Amara View & it drives me nuts!
~I am not sure if I have the correct size however, as I was given a second hand one (& never had access to the relevant mask sizing tool that is used for the Amara View).
I seem to constantly have a lot of trouble getting a decent seal, the worst place for potential air leaks seems to be around the 'nose shelf' (9 times out of 10, this results in air blasting straight up into the eyes!). Due to the frustration I was experiencing, I ended up doing a lot of internet searches on the Amara view, to try & find out if I was somehow not putting it on right, however it seems a lot of people are also having issues using this mask (it is a bit temperamental as far as I'm concerned). Some people absolutely love it, while many others seem to have a love hate relationship with theirs (one night they are able to get a perfect seal & have a great night sleep 'as a result' & the next night, the mask hisses & leaks, all night long!)…
My suggestion would be to go to a place that sells them and ask to use their sizing tool, or even better, see if they then have any test masks available, so you can try the Amara view for several nights, & make your decision from there.
Cheers :D

I forgot to add into my previous response, that the Amara view, is suitable for mouth breathers (which I am; I also drool.... a lot) providing you`re able to establish a good seal. I could be wrong in saying this, but I have a feeling the reason behind the Amara View's varied success, has to do with a person's nose size, and shape.

The frame for the full face DreamWear is the same frame as for the gel pillow or nasal cushion DreamWear versions.
Did you see this video review?

and I did some comparisons between the Amara View and the DreamWear FF cushion in this thread.

In general the DreamWear FFM is just a much improved Amara View...IMO.

Funny you should ask...hah.

This is really strange but I USED to be an avid supporter of the Amara View, but now I hate it. It's become "toxic" to me, I have 3 masks, the Dreamwear full being a 2nd (which I just used last night and it was ok) but I'm completely inlove with the Resmed F30 and that mask has now made the View impossible for me to wear, I could not get a good seal with it, even though previously I lived and loved this mask for over a year.

In short, as of now, out of the two you asked I'd have to say Dreamwear full. It's not perfect but it's workable. For ME personally, *now*...mask perfection is the F30.

PM me your address and I'll happily ship you my Amara View free of charge, with a brand new headgear, and two different size masks, medium and large, and I may have another medium. I will wash all three masks with hot water and soap as I normally do.
Yay :D For no more diaphragm cramps and dozing off while driving!

As far as the actual mask part goes, the DreamWear, Amara View and Resmed F30 are all the same design. I've never tried the Amara View. I've had the DreamWear FFM and *really* liked it except for the front vent that sent a jet blast of air across the bed. So, I switched to the ResMed F30, which has ResMed's "diffused venting" that I love. Nice and quiet and no jet blast. I wish I could combine the DreamWear headgear with the air pipes and top-of-head hose-connection with ResMed's diffused venting. That would be the perfect mask for me.

A bit of a plot twist, someone on here suggested using the Amara view headgear with the ResMed F30 FFM. For me, that combo is a definite improvement over the regular F30 headgear.

Both the DreamWear FFM and the ResMed F30 FFM are chronic leakers with me -- especially if you do not use a mask liner. Even with a mask liner, I still get leaks, just not as bad as without the mask liner. HOWEVER, the leaks are not a showstopper. I still get good therapy, good sleep and good AHI metrics (except for leaks). So as long as the leaks don't wake me up or otherwise disturb me, I don't really care about them.

Now I'm curious to try the Amara View...

No matter what mask you use, I think a liner is a huge help and I consider them a requirement for me. See Ms Karen at padacheek.com for mask liners. Her liners are the best in all regards!

Good Luck!

I started CPAP back in 2006. My first mask was the predecessor to the Quattro Mirage FF for a year or so then the Mirage until a few years ago. Discovered the Amara View FF and loved it. Was introduced to the Dreamwear FF during a sleep study a year or so ago. Liked it so much that I (and my wife) switched to it.
Masks seem be something that just don't work for everyone though and my experience has been that you have try one to know if it suits your face shape.

it was me that suggested the amara view headgear swap to the F30 and yes I'm loving that setup. I guess this is the strange nature of discussing cpap equipment and philosophy because it's so incredibly personal and therefore unpredictable what experiences two people will have with the exact same equipment.

i didn't really care for the F30 when i first got it, i stuck to View for a while.. but i kept at it, and now that I've got it dialed in on the strap settings, it's fantastic and honestly does not leak.

The Dreamwear is comfortable to wear and light, only real complaint is it's a little bit loud, but not unbearable. Side sleeping with the Dreamwear ffm is comfortable with no issues, except for the air rushing past the ear in the tube. I thought the tube at the top of the head connection would be weird while laying in bed but it's really not an issue like at all.

I have used both masks in the past. I liked both masks, but the Amara View fit my face better. You have three size options with the Amara View, and only two with the Dreamwear. The Amara View is sized according to the length of your nose, while the Dreamwear is sized according to the width of the nose. I could never get the Dreamwear to seal around my nose. Both mask started to irritate my nose after a few nights. My nose would get very sensitive during the night, but the tenderness would go away during the day. I originally went to the Amara View because I could not find a full face mask that did not irritate the bridge of my nose, until I found the F20 mask.
