Hello everyone
I'm new here and am wondering if I may find my answer to the problem I am currently having. I am having swellings in the mouth. They occur on the lips (inside) or the tongue (not good). It has happened twice already (June and again in July). I must now carry an Epi-Gun in my purse as that is the only thing that took the swelling down. I am seeing an allergist who started the testing to see the cause. He has begun testing me for certain foods.
Since I have gotten the Dream Station CPAP machine, my mouth is severely dry in the morning (to the point where my tongue is glued to the top of my mouth). The machine does have a humidifier, but it seems it's not helping with the dryness. Can CPAP contribute to the swelling of the tongue and lips (on the inside)? I will be taking the machine to have it checked. Each night I fill the humidifier with distilled water and a bit is left in by morning, but I am still very very dry. I am beside myself with fear of this happening again. Could the CPAP machine be the cause?
Thank you Nancy W.

Re: CPAP & dry mouth
It is very doubtful the machine is causing your allergy problems. The only thing coming through the mask is filtered air and a little moisture from the distilled water. The dry mouth could be caused by breathing through your mouth when you sleep. I have suffered from allergies for many years, but mine cause asthma or nasal discharge. It has been several years since I have carried an epi pen with me.

Re: CPAP & dry mouth
If you're using a nasal or pillow mask, rather than a full face one, it's very possible air is leaking out of your mouth overnight causing the dryness and incidentally limiting what should go to opening your airway. Or are you already wearing a FF mask which would allow your mouth to open but not lose therapy air to the wind.
Re: CPAP & dry mouth
welcome aboard! i would tend to think the swelling and such is an allergy and you should continue pursuing that with your doctor. i don't believe i've read here of any case of this being caused by cpap.
to tag along with what julie has said, may i recommend xylimelts? they can be found in the oral care section of your local drugstore. it's a small lozenge that has a slightly sticky side to it. i place it on the outside of the teeth where it rests between there and your cheek.
it is a saliva stimulate that melts slowly overnight. i use two during the drier months.
it certainly has helped me with my dry mouth over the years.
