Resmed Airsense 10 Recommended Settings?

Post by andy88488 » Thu Aug 22, 2019 12:45 pm

Hi all,

I have just bought myself a new APAP. Sorry, Pugsy, I couldn't bring myself to buy the "For Her" even though you made a lot of sense about the extra mode you get. I just couldn't have a machine with a floral motif at my bedside.

So I was looking at the clinical menu, and there were all of these options! Temperature of the hose, Automatic vs manual climate control, whether to use smartstart, standard or soft response.

Can anyone tell me what I should start with for these values?

Thanks,
Andy

  It's not flowers...it's leaves and for $20 you could have changed the face plate.
Oh well...that's okay.

What were your settings on the other machine you had (and what was it)?

Start with auto for climate control...for both humidity and hose air temp. There's a reason for the auto settings....the majority of users find it will work well for them. Adjust as needed depending on results.

SmartSense just means you only need to take a couple of breaths to start the machine vs having to push a button.
Your choice as to whether you have it on or not.
Having it on will also mean that if you remove the mask the machine will shut itself off in about 10 seconds...so don't have to reach over and push the button. I like it myself.

I have never experienced the soft response...play with both to see which one feels the best to you....if you can even tell a difference.
Otherwise....start with standard and then try soft later if you wish.

Set:
  • APAP mode
  • Min and Max pressure the same as your older device
  • If you used ramp on your older device, set ramp on this one the same pressure, consider setting to Auto. This will turn it off when it detects you're asleep.
  • Set humidity and hose temp to Automatic.
  • Set EPR to a similar value as previous unit, though it might be called Flex
Then adjust pressures and comfort features to dial-in as you get accustomed to it. Post graphs if you have to.

Oh darn! I never thought I could get a replacement face plate! Oh well.

I have a Respironics System 60 APAP. It used to be in my profile, but I see that somehow it got lost. I'll have to look at it and see what the settings were. I think that the EPR was 1. Other than that, I don't think that there were any similar setting options on my old machine. It was much less customizable.

You might be able to get by with a little less minimum with the ResMed than you were using with the Respironics.
No promises but you might. I suggest starting with whatever you were using and evaluate the results.

EPR is ResMed's exhale relief...sort of like but not exactly like Respironics Flex. They are both exhale relief but they don't work the same.
Just use whatever feels good to you....setting of 1 will most closely mimic your old settings.

Hmm... I was titrated at 11, but I saw a doctor several years later. This guy said to change the minimum to 10. I always thought he said this without much in the way of evidence, but I did it. Maybe I'll stay with a minimum of 10 here. My AHI with the System 60 has always been super-low, like 0.5 to 1.5, but I don't wake up feeling rested. However, when I look at Sleepyhead, I see that what the machine is classifying as Vibratory Snores look very much like Apneas when you examine them closely. So the AHI number may be misleading.

I'm hoping that a better, more modern machine might help with the waking up feeling lousy.

Thanks,
Andy
