The Best Sleeping Position, According to Experts

Post by JayDee » Fri Oct 04, 2019 8:53 am

Obviously, any recommendation on something so personally subjective is going to require a heaping-helping of "gross generalization" , but I saw the article and figured I'd pass it along.
As for me, I sleep in all positions throughout the night and I don't usually recall affirmatively deciding on a particular position to toss & turn to.
So for me, the best position just might be "all of them".

If you're not having a good time, *DO* something about it.

At this point in life my body dictates my sleep position, and it's constantly shifting to accomodate this ache and that pain. Funny that in my young childbearing years I did not know it was best for the baby to sleep on my side. Wondering if that advice was available 50 years ago and I just didn't know it or if that's a piece of more modern knowledge. Hmmm.

When I got started, back sleeping was major cause of my OAs, combined with too low starting pressure, Was having AHI high near 10.

Pugsy spotted this "positional aspect" immediately, tried lots of things to get off my back. Even recorded my sleep with a wyze cam every night for quite awhile. Back sleeping was my preferred position by far.

No quick fix for me. Over the course of almost a year, I learned to fall asleep on one of my sides, and if I got up to pee, do same. Think I'm doing well because I have slightly sore shoulder often when I wake up.

I sleep in 3 of the 4 positions. Can't get comfy on my stomach.

You must be a male. It dribbles on my thigh when trying to void the bladder on either of my sides. I always have to sit down straight.

About this quote from the article,
... you could still reap other side-sleeping benefits like the delayed onset of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases.
I read that as positional sleep apnea treatment delays the onset of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s doesn't surprise me. I have long considered untreated sleep apnea to be a major factor in different types of dementia. I wonder what the connection is to Parkinson’s.

Greetings my cpap peoples!

I've recently thrown out my old pillow while cleaning out some beta amyloids and remembered to drop by and say hello.

I've been very busy with my never-ending biohacks -- growing larger mitochondria and testicles and all.

It's very difficult keeping the ladies at bay with my increasingly attractive face.

Anyway, I hope my cpap peoples are all doing well, adapting to climate change and crazy politics -- best to just keep the mouth shut around here though.

Oh yes, I almost forgot -- hello, and goodbye.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Love it when you stop by dream stalker. Excellent links, but I fear it's too late for my face and testicles.

My father has severe sleep apnea. Athletic shape all his life. Now 81 , severe Parkinson. His sleep apnea has never been treated

I prefer to sleep on my side, but sometimes my old shoulders punish me for enjoying my sleep.
Apparently, none of the "experts" suffer from arthritis, bursitis, rotator cuff,
or any of the myriad things that come with age.
Lucky them.
