Hi all, has anyone here experienced a loud whining noise that comes from the machine itself when using one of the newer Airtouch/Airfit masks with a Quietair elbow or have any idea what it could be?
The mask noise with the newer elbow is significantly lower than with the standard elbow that used to ship with these masks, but for some reason my machine emits a high pitched whine whenever I try to use the new elbow.
My machine is about 4 years old now but has been running fine. I usually just try to replace the cushion and keep using the same headgear but once in a while, when there’s a good sale I’ll just buy a new mask. This is the second time I’ve tried the Quietair elbow, thinking maybe the first one was defective somehow, but it does the same thing. The noise is definitely from the machine and not the mask. With the new elbow I get almost no noise from the mask at all, which would be awesome, but I can’t take the high pitched noise so I end up just popping in my old elbow and have been using that for a while now.
Just to be clear, the noise only happens when using the Quietair elbow. As soon as I put on my old one it goes away. I feel like I can only use that same elbow for so long even though I clean it regularly. Does anyone have any ideas what that could be or if there’s anything I can do to make that whining noise go away? Also, have any of you tried to modify the new elbow by removing the plastic ring? It looks like if you were to carefully cut that off, you’d have a standard elbow but I haven’t tried it yet.
Thanks in advance if you are able to respond and sorry for the long post.

My first thought is that the quiet elbow may be allowing you to hear sounds that were previously masked by air exiting the old design elbow. That would mean that the cause could be something else. Other places I would look: a) The humidifier tank (inserted fully, is any part hanging up, is there an issue with the gasket inside or outside); b) Hose (seated firmly, no small holes).wolfi3 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2019 9:55 pmHi all, has anyone here experienced a loud whining noise that comes from the machine itself when using one of the newer Airtouch/Airfit masks with a Quietair elbow or have any idea what it could be?

Thanks for the response, I’ll listen closely to see if the noise from the old elbow is masking that noise. I also have a spare hose and humidifier tank that I can try just to see if there are any leaks on that end. I do clean the hose regularly with mild soap and water and it’s never leaked but I guess if it’s a tiny hole I may not have noticed.TropicalDiver wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2019 1:23 amMy first thought is that the quiet elbow may be allowing you to hear sounds that were previously masked by air exiting the old design elbow. It would be nice to know that I could use the new elbow without the annoying noise, as I know I’ll have to use it eventually. Thanks again for the response, I really appreciate it.

The noise may be from the exhaust air hitting the buffer where before, the exhaust had nothing in front of it.
