Can I use boiled tap water in my humidifier tank?

Post by SgtSkippy » Fri Mar 06, 2020 11:42 pm

Normally I use distilled water like it suggests, but because of the coronavirus concerns, people are buying up all the water in my area making distilled water difficult to find. So can I boil tap water, allow it to cool, then use that in my CPAP humidifier tank without problem?

You don’t have to use distilled water any still water is fine no need to boil it if it’s safe to drink. In the EU and UK Resmed manuals say use Water no mention of distilled. However you will then get a build up of minerals gradually in the water tank, wipe out with a tissue after use and clean regularly with vinegar to remove any deposits. Boiling the water before use will not help reduce the deposits in fact technically it will make the deposits worse as some water would be evaporated due to the boiling

From Helix water district:
"Coronavirus (COVID-19) is known to spread from person to person through close contact, similar to how the flu is transmitted. There is currently no evidence to support that Coronavirus (COVID-19) is transmitted through drinking water. Coronavirus (COVID-19) can be disinfected through use of ozone, chlorine and other treatment processes used in processing your tap water."

Maybe Americans will finally start paying attention to SCIENTISTS.

Too much to hope for?

Is your tap water safe to drink?

If it is then you should NOT boil it. Distilled water is a cleaning convenance, not a medical necessity.

According to ResMed:

From their H4i Heated Humidifier User Guide current to 2018:https://www.resmed.com/fr-fr/dam/docume ... r1_eng.pdf
ResMed wrote:Do I have to use distilled water in the water chamber?

Using distilled water will maximise the life of the water chamber and reduce mineral deposits
From ResMed's Humidifier webpage:
ResMed wrote:What kind of water should I use with my humidifier?

Tap water is fine for everyday use when you are using a cleanable water tub. If you have a standard humidifier tub, we recommend that you use distilled or deionised water. The water should be changed after each use—even if it is not all used within one night.

Sure, you can, but why?
There really isn't a good reason to do it, and a couple good reasons not to.

You have a long history of making dumb posts.

Now, you're just being ridiculous. People *listening* to people that know things, and then *thinking*? Fantasy!

That would probably require thinking.
