High pitched noise when inhale
High pitched noise when inhale
I am a second time CPAP user (this unit much improved over previous one) I am using the ResMed AirSense 10. At about 5 hours into the night, i notice that as I inhale, the unit makes a high pitched wheezing sound. Yes, I have checked the fit of the mask, etc and the noise is definitely coming from the machine itself. If i take the mask off and let the system go off, then put back on in a few minutes, the sound is gone but then reappears after a few more minutes.
Anyone experience this? How can I resolve?
Thank you!

Re: High pitched noise when inhale
Still under warranty? Take it back to the DME.
Re: High pitched noise when inhale
Maybe you should reduce or turn off the exhalation relief. This lets up a bit on the pressure when you exhale, but that does make the noise change when you exhale.
Re: High pitched noise when inhale
If it is still under warranty......return it.
No machine should suddenly start making weird machine motor noises at any time.

Re: High pitched noise when inhale
Once in a while, I hear a whistle from my ResMed machine (3 identical ones actually). I have found that it is caused by an air leak between the humidifier module and the main body of the unit. I just reach over and reinsert the humidifier and that has always worked.

The symptoms the OP describes are different.sptrout wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 3:40 pmOnce in a while, I hear a whistle from my ResMed machine (3 identical ones actually). Re: High pitched noise when inhale
The point is that here is a variation in the noise between inhale and exhale.

Re: High pitched noise when inhale
Before you return it to the DME, try checking two things: the humidifier water container's seal and seating, which in old posts some people have identified as the source of an inhale "whine," and the machine's size setting for your hose.
When I used a ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset, I had a fairly quiet version of this whine (which someone once described as the cry of a baby whale for its mommy) and although I could tolerate it, I really didn't like it. The VAuto is completely silent, and I realize now the earlier machine should have been too.
Good luck!

I live in New Mexico where dust is a major problem. When this happens to me it is time to change the filter.
