ResMed AirFit F30i Sizing

Post by wacomme » Sat May 02, 2020 11:19 am

I'm interested in ordering and trying out the F30i mask. However, sizing is a dilemma. From CPAP.com, I can order a small cushion and small frame, or a medium cushion and standard frame. The cushion sizing chart indicates a medium cushion (barely); a small is a tad too small according to the chart. There is no sizing chart for the frame, and I can't find sizing dimensions on the internet, though that information is likely superfluous.

I have a N30i mask that fits great and doesn't leak much. I love it. However, I need a full face mask due to mouth breathing - even with tape and chin straps. Thus, I think the F30i may work - worth a try. My N30i mask frame and cushions are size small - great fit. The F30i mask is an entirely different mask than the N30i. The F30i comes in three frame sizes (small, standard, large) vs the N30i that comes in two sizes (small, standard). Also, according to the ResMed fit guides, I size a small cushion for the N30i and a medium cushion for the F30i.

I do own the F30 mask. It comes in only one frame size. I use the small cushions. It is my worse fitting mask - leaks everywhere. I believe the reason for the leaking is because the frame is too big for me.

So, knowing all of this, for buying the F30i mask, should I go with the small cushion and small frame, or the medium cushion and standard frame?

Thoughts? Comments?

Thank you.

I started using the F30i (medium size) about a month ago and it was a welcome change from a full face mask the really hurt the bridge of my nose. The F30i is very unobtrusive and the overhead hose lead is great. However I have issues with leaks around the nose. I'm a side sleeper mainly and when I move from side to side I often get a tiny leak around the nose. I'm still adjusting things to tweak better performance. I wish it locked in like to the nostrils like the N30i but alas it doesn't. I plan to go back to a full face mask again with a strap support like the Fisher & Paykill Vitera that looks like it would "anchor" to my face better. I also wish there was less guess work in sizing masks especially these days!

Since cpap.com offers free returns, I'm thinking of ordering the small cushion and small frame. Though I have a F20 in size medium that seems to fit me kinda well, all of my nasal type masks (F30, N30i, P30i) are smalls. So, not rational, I'm thinking that since my nasal pillow masks are all smalls, I should order the F30i in a small too, even though the cushion size chart says medium. I wish I could order a medium cushion with a small frame from cpap.com, but that's not possible with free returns - and a need the free return option.

The cushion of the F30i cups the nose and inflates up and around the sides of ones nose. It is somewhat forgiving size wise.
(You still need to get fairly close) Sounds like a medium would work for you.

The frame? Try standard.

After all, like you said you can always return and get the correct one after trying the first one out. :D

JPB

You also have to nestle your nose into the cushion properly to be leak free. (mostly)
Very important to get this right.

By the way I have a P30i with the same claimed frame size on it as my F30i.
The P30i is loose as a goose, while the F30i frame fits perfectly.

This is good to know. Then maybe I will order the standard frame (and medium cushions). I was worried since the small N30i frame (same as P30i) fits me well, and I thought the F series would fit similarly.

And I should have known that I'm a small frame - right in the middle of the small range. But I ordered the standard frame since I measured medium for the cushions. I guess I'll be returning the mask for a smaller one.

How did the size work out? Did you return the first set for a small frame and small cushion? Did you have any issues with fitting or leaks, and did you like this mask?

I'm about to order an AirFit F30i and had the same question about what size to get. I have a small head but for some reason I needed a medium (the frame? the clear hard plastic part) in another ResMed mask (the F20) since the small didn't fit me.
