Cpap off grid using 12v

Hey all,

I’m wondering if anyone has any experience using humidifier on a 12v system in an R.V? With an airsense 10
I’ve done a little research but seems it’s not possible
Any thoughts ?

ResMed AirSense 10 machines require 24 volt.

There is an converter available to take the 12 volt battery output and make it 24 volt.

Thanks I have one of those it’s great but from what I’ve read you can only use the machine without the humidifier with the adapter you mentioned.

You *can* use it with the humidifier but the draw on the battery will be approximately 2.5 times as much ( if the humidifier is at 4)

If you take a look on page 7 you will see various combinations of using AirSense 10 machines with and without the humidifier and the power draw.

For example:

• An AirSense 10 at a pressure of 12 and no humidifier, will draw just over 1 amp.
• An AirSense 10 at a pressure of 12 with humidifier at 4, will draw just over 2.61 amps.

A heated hose is a definite no-no as well.

If you're going to run off battery you should try to go with passover humidity. Water in humidifier, but humidifier turned off.

Hopefully the combination of passover humidity and the higher humidity during non-winter will be enough.

Alternatively, you might look into HME devices to use when off-grid.

You have to use that adapter if you want to use a 12 volt battery.....no way around that with a ResMed machine.

The humidifier problem is simply because of a power consumption use problem.....if you want to power the humidifier you will need a really big battery capacity to have enough power to last through the night because of the power draw.
Humidifiers and heated hose simply need a lot of power to make them work...with or without the adapter being used or needed.
Same problem occurs with Respironics machines that don't require that adapter to convert since they already work off 12 volt....if people want to use the humidifier or heated hose they need a really big capacity battery or else the power drain results in the battery dying in the middle of the night.
