Thanks to the advice of the good people on this board, I am now using 3M painters tape for my mouth. I find it much more comfortable and effective than a chin strap (and I tried many chin straps). And it's easy to remove.
I do worry about the toxicity though, since I'm wearing a 2" strip across my mouth 8 hours a day every day, and I'm sweating into it which I imagine might dissolve some of the adhesive and make it more readily absorbed.
Does anyone have any data on the potential toxicity? I imagine this kind of information is hard to come buy, since we're not using it for its intended purpose. But I figured the people here were resourceful and smart, and might have gathered some information on the composition of the tape, or potential risks.
(This is a question about the tape specifically, rather than the pros/cons of taping itself. There are good existing threads that already cover that.)

Unfortunately, while 3M painter's tape does have an MSDS entry, the adhesive components are a trade secret. The best that anyone could likely tell you is that there is no danger of exposure to hazardous materials when used under normal conditions.

If you are worried about the nearly odorless 3M tape, try the generic brand.
Some of that stuff positively REEKS!

Yeah probably better options out there.
Re: Toxicity of 3M painter's tape
I've tried medical tapes and they either don't hold as well and leak, or are impossible to take off. And also a lot more expensive.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 11:18 amIf you are really worried about it, why not use something like Nexcare Sensitive Skin Tape?
