Nature of Apnea Headache

Post by petunia2013 » Fri Jul 03, 2020 1:32 pm

I'm a 7-year CPAP user, and fairly comfortable with my mask, etc. I keep having to raise my pressure due to consistent headaches. My RT told me that I may have to move to BiPap, as my CPAP machine is hitting its limit of pressure. It's occured to me that it may not be apnea that is the issue. What does an apnea headache feel like? I have pain sort of throughout my head, but somewhat concentrated in my right temple and behind my eyes. This is not severe pain, but consistent and annoying. Should I consult either my sleep doc or my PCP?
Thanks.

If it's a one-off headache and you normally don't get them, call your doctor now.

If you get them often, or they change and you can't point to specific circumstances, talk to your doctor about them and they may want to do some testing and/or talking to you about them.

Everyone's different and so apnea or not, their headaches won't necessarily be the same as yours regardless of the 'source'. We both might have 'tension' headaches for instance, but because my physiology's different from yours, because of other medical factors in each of us, headaches of the same type won't necessarily be 'the same' because they're affected by the rest of our system.

welcome to the zoo!

i'm uncertain what an "apnea headache" is. and why it's thought that raising pressure may help it. i've never experienced this problem in my five years as a hose head. that doesn't mean your headache isn't real.

but as julie suggests, you may want to look elsewhere to see what the culprit may be. my concern for you is that you may be laying out more money (bilevel or bipap as you said are more expensive machines) for something that won't fix your headaches.

i'll sit back and see what others have to say now.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.
