Waking up with chest pain anyone?

Post by bobajojo » Mon Jul 13, 2020 12:16 pm

I'm new to this forum but wanted to ask about chest pain. I've been using a CPAP machine for nearly 8 years now with no issues. Recently I had to get a new machine because my old one, well, was old. About a month after using my new CPAP I started waking up with general aching in my chest. At first I suspected GERD but have tried weeks of Prilosec with no improvement. It only happens when I'm lying down (ie I wake up at 3AM with it and it lasts until I get up). Even after I get up, it makes it better but the aching may linger through the morning. Does anyone else experience this? I'm wondering if I'm not getting enough air with my new machine or something.

It's not uncommon to have that symptom when starting Cpap (and a different machine could qualify as 'new' depending on things) and it usually just means your muscles, etc. are being worked out in ways they're not used to. And it eventually goes away. But unless this sounds likely, or even if it doesn't, I'd check with my doctor to be sure... an ECG only takes a few minutes after all.

After EIGHT YEARS, I would be calling the DOCTOR!
Please do that.

If you were brand new to cpap therapy I might be more inclined to think chest wall muscle discomfort from muscle work done the muscles weren't used to.. That feels sort of like costochronditis chest discomfort....hurts a little to inhale and exhale but after all your years on cpap I wouldn't think now that it is related to cpap.
Now it could still be simple costochondritis but from other reasons.

Anytime we have chest discomfort ....always good to have a chat with our doctor about it. Sometimes the heart does some weird things and we sure don't want to be ignoring potential heart issues.

You aren't brand new to cpap therapy...you are an 8 year cpap veteran.
Now if they changed machines types and made some big changes in the settings at the time as well. Then it might be a different story.

I would still recommend having a chat with your doctor about it and alerting him/her to the problem you are experiencing and see if they want to do anything about it.

Have been on CPAP for about five months. after about 4 months I noticed that when I took a deep breath I experienced pain in my diaphragm and lower back, quite severe at times. It has gone away but I still cannot sleep on my left side without pain on my right side next my lung area while on the CPAP machine. When I lie on my back the pain goes away. What is significant is that if I turn the CPAP off and take my mask off I have no problem whatsoever with sleeping on my left side so it definitely has to do with the CPAP. Anyone have similar experience?
