boil and bite mouthguard question
boil and bite mouthguard question
i have a slight misalignment of my teeth. my bottom teeth slightly protrude, leaving a wee gap about the size of the tip of my tongue.
would a boil and bite mouthguard close off this gap?
would a boil and bite mouthguard close off this gap?

Re: boil and bite mouthguard question
Do you mean in the way braces are used to correct teeth positions? I don't think so ... but that's a question for a dentist...

Re: boil and bite mouthguard question
I don't think it would do what you want. All it does is form to the existing shape and position of the teeth. You need something to exert some sort of continuous pressure on the teeth to move the teeth.

Re: boil and bite mouthguard question
no. to you and khauser, i've expressed myself badly, which is prolly why i didn't get responses.

what i'm saying is, will a boil and bite mouth guard in itself provide a covering, or filling, for that gap.
what i'm trying to do is pretty much seal my mouth so that even less air gets in.
does this make sense?

Re: boil and bite mouthguard question
Yes. That does make more sense and it might do that. I thought you were wanting to fix the gap and improve your already beautiful smile and good looks.
Depending on how big your teeth are I think there's a good chance the guard would cover the gap...those boil and bit guards are pretty good size over all. I can't even begin to get one in my mouth...they are just too big. I had a couple of the Wilson brand donated but I think I finally pawned them out on someone because I didn't see them the other day in the donations box when I was looking for that couple for someone wanting a long hose to mask hose quick release coupler. Brand new...still in package but I think they already found new homes.
Why not give the Tap Pap a try? You might like it and it comes with it's own boil n bite guard. You know I used it for over a year.
Comes with the 30 day free return insurance from cpap.com.....or if really interested you might be able to sweet talk me out of mine and I have a brand new mouth guard I never stuck in my mouth. I got it as a spare...you know how I am about having spares...and I have kept it all these years just in case I ever want to go back to it but like all my others I keep "just in case I go back"....I won't.
It might as well go to someone who might like using it.
Take a look and see if it interests you.
I think I still have the optional headgear as well...I never used the headgear at all and back when I got that mask the headgear was included. Now it's a separate purchase.

Re: boil and bite mouthguard question
Depending on the mouthguard, it can take valuable tongue space in your mouth, forcing it back into your throat, and, possibly, causing more apneas. So just make sure it doesn't cause problems.
Re: boil and bite mouthguard question
Not a problem with the tap pap. It's walls are fairly thin, though strong.
I am not sure it will solve the gap issue though ... it does not cover all the way to the gums. At least mine doesn't.

Re: boil and bite mouthguard question
Yes, they will "throttle" air flow through the lips. The one I had did have a "slot" in front between the teeth, maybe 3/8" wide and less than 1/16" tall, but pretty easy to cover that with the tongue. It was effective at holding the mouth closed reasonably well, at least for me.zonker wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 7:40 pmno. to you and khauser, i've expressed myself badly, which is prolly why i didn't get responses.![]()

However, be aware that my teeth ached every morning after wearing it. I sleep on my side, jaw wants to move down a bit towards the pillow, mouthpiece holds jaw up, teeth are holding mouthpiece up, thus the ache. I also drooled a bit with it in my mouth. Were I a back sleeper, might have been better. I tossed it after about a week.

It's going to depend on how large zonker's teeth are. I have small mouth and small teeth and it totally covered my upper teeth in front...right up to the gum line. I have never seen zonker's teeth....his mouth has always been covered in his pictures that dog slobber plays with.

Re: boil and bite mouthguard question
aw shucks.

i HAVE tried it thinking it would be the solution to my leaking problems with full face and nasal masks. alas, it was a non-starter because my teeth are also slightly misaligned; JUST enough that i can't get the thing to stabilize even with the mouth guard.
but thanks for thinking of it.
looks like i'll be trying the boil and bite. i don't remember them being too expensive.

i wear a firm foam cervical collar to bed. i'm hoping that it will counteract that downward droop of the jaw.

Is tape not working for you, to keep the mouth closed?
