How To Turn Off "High Leak" Alert
My Resmed Airsense 10 is only three years old and has worked well until recently. Last night, the cpap stopped and displayed a "High Leak" alert. I checked the mask leakage and it was not any worse then previously. I have never had this alert before and concerned that the next time I won't get up and end up breathing my own exhaust all night and being deprived of oxygen! Is there a way to turn off the "High Leak" alert and not stopping the cpap? HELP!
BTW, I noticed that there was a similar topic posted in 2016, but it did not answer my question. Also, searched elsewhere on the forums and Youtube and could not find the answer I need.
I plan to cross-post this same question elsewhere on the subject since it is very important that I find a solution to this issue ASAP. I checked the "SmartStart" and it is set to "Off". Thank you in advance.

Re: How To Turn Off "High Leak" Alert
You can't turn it off.
It's going off for a reason. Either there is high leak, or there is a problem with the sensor that is detecting it.
Check:

Check:
- Mask-to-hose
- Hose-to-device
- Humidifier seal
- Humidifier is seated
- Seals within humidifier cavity

Re: How To Turn Off "High Leak" Alert
Thanks for the reply, Dog Slobber.
Last night, I did detach and reattach the host to the cpap machine and felt around the humidifier tube to the mask and found no leaks. I have never had the "High Leak" in the three years I have used the Resmed airsense 10, but the alert came on immediately, after starting the machine, even though I was holding the nasal mask tightly against my face. After about dozen attempts, I thought further attempts would be futile and slept without using the cpap. BTW, I did a quick insert of the SD card into my iMac 27" mid-2010 running MacOS 10.13.6. and did not notice any unusual numbers for leaks... but I am not too familiar with Sleepyhead at all. I plan to get more acquainted in the future.
I did not check if the humidifier was properly seated, etc., and will do so tonight. I also plan to temporarily set the "SmartStart" to "On" and see if it makes a difference. Is there a way to check the sensor myself or does that require sending the machine to the DME (Apria via Kaiser Permenante)?
Thanks,
Grampa

Re: How To Turn Off "High Leak" Alert
If the humidifier isn't correctly and fully seated....I have seen that message but usually it's so darn noisy that the problem is obvious and quickly fixed.
Usually a quick and much more forceful shove in of the water chamber fixes it....but do take the time to look inside and make sure the little gaskets appear normal looking and not buckled or crimped which would of course create a seal problem.

Re: How To Turn Off "High Leak" Alert
Hi Pugsy,
After reading Dog Slobber post yesterday, I tried reseating the humidifier on the off-chance that I didn't seat it okay the night before. In addition, I tried changing "SmartStart" from "Off" to "On", which I found to be intuitively wrong, but felt I had nothing to lose. Had a good sleep session (2:15 hours with 0.0 events, but the red mask leak image). I usually don't much beyond 2 hours due to the pressing need to pee as a result of having enlarged prostrates at age 84.
I'll check the inside of the humidity chamber tonight to see if there were any buckled or crimped items inside. Not sure on the reason why the "High Leak" alert to go away, but happy at least for now that I am able to use the CPAP machine without having having to send it to Apria (DME designated by Kaiser Permenante HMO here in Anaheim, CA). I miss not being able to go directly to the DME myself while I was under the PPO plan prior to retirement a couple of years ago.
Thanks to you and the Dog Slobber for your suggestions.

Re: How To Turn Off "High Leak" Alert
If you are still showing too much leak with the red Frowny face you probably should check your hose for holes and any part of your mask that might have a hose also.
If nothing there either and the gaskets aren't crimped. May need to dig a little deeper.

Do you by any chance have a pet in the house?
The hose can be punctured by teeth, claws, and even birdy talons.

Might also change the filter as a precaution or at least make sure it is properly positioned if it was recently changed.
It wouldn't be totally impossible for it to be a sensor issue but those kind of issues are exceedingly rare.

After I received the alerts, I changed the hose, filter and mask that I recently received from the DME. Also, no pets in the house.
Actually, the earlier suggestions to check that the humidifier has resolved my issue. I suspect that I might have been sloppy in inserting the humidifier that night since I was tired. So since then, I always double check to make sure that the humidifier has been inserted firmly into the Airsense 10 machine. No more "High Leak" alerts since then.
Thanks for the additional suggestions!

Re: How To Turn Off "High Leak" Alert
Yeah...I have been lazy with my water chamber insertion sometimes but the noise is usually so bad no way I could sleep so it gets fixed before I get in bed. So I am really sloppy sometimes.
Now I did have a big leak thing once years ago when I accidentally tore the hose just a little and how much it leaks depended on how much I ended up moving that section of the hose. Sometimes I ended up stretching the hose a lot which of course makes the hole where the tear is much larger and then when I would move so the hose scrunched up on itself it self closed the tear. It took me a week of seeing these intermittent big leaks show on the reports to have the light bulb go off in my head....maybe there is a hole in the hose itself....and indeed that was the problem.

Reviving an old thread here as I try to maximize my CPAP therapy.
What leak rate usually triggers this? I haven't seen it in the settings menu. Where do you get to it, and is it generally recommended to use?

There is no setting to get to for "high leak alert"...so you can't set it.southerndoc wrote: ↑Tue Jun 22, 2021 3:36 pmReviving an old thread here as I try to maximize my CPAP therapy.

This is just something that happens when the leak is massive and the machine knows it can't function in the face of that much leak and it wants you to stop and fix it NOW.

I have seen it when I didn't have the water chamber fully inserted...but didn't really need to see it to know I needed to fix it....sounded like a jet engine going off in my bedroom.
Now years ago we did have machines that had a leak alarm setting but it was either on or off and not all machines had it and it was useless anyway...about the loudness of a mouse fart.
