CPAP Water?

CPAP Water?
So I just received my Resmed and it says it needs distilled water. I don't have any in the house so I looked online and there are all these companies selling CPAP water in individual bottles but it's super expensive. Is there a reason to get CPAP water over regular distilled water that costs $1 for a gallon?
Re: CPAP Water?
Distilled water isn't really necessary. Well filtered tap water is fine. Distilled is only recommended in the U.S., probably because our tap water varies so widely. You definitely don't need specifically bottled CPAP water. If your local water is very hard, buy distilled at your earliest opportunity.
Re: CPAP Water?
No, you don't have to buy special expensive "cpap" water nor do you even have to buy distilled if you don't want to or it's not readily available.

My local water is very hard and full of cr@p, so I use a countertop distiller.
The distiller needs regular de-liming, but my husband does it for me--big sweetie.
Some places have naturally soft water.
Your local utility should provide a fresh assay each year--available to the public.

Re: CPAP Water?
Hucksters slap 'CPAP' on things and then fleece unsuspecting apnea sufferers, for the most part, anything marketed to CPAP users should really be avoided (with the exception of stuff from padacheek.com, they're legit).geekinchief wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 4:07 pmSo I just received my Resmed and it says it needs distilled water. CPAP wipes, not needed.
CPAP water, TOTAL RIPOFF.
CPAP cleaners? they're ALL a ripoff, and only one type (ultrasonic) actually cleans anything, and the one that has "cpap" on it costs 3x as much as buying an ultrasonic cleaner elsewhere.
Just avoid anything marketed as "CPAP" something, and you'll be better off.

Re: CPAP Water?
We got tired of carrying distilled water when we traveled, so we just use bottled water in the machines when we travel. We always drink bottled water when we travel so we always have it handy at the hotel.

Re: CPAP Water?
Grocery store / pharmacy distilled water is all you need.
If you have good tap water that may be ok, but distilled water removes the minerals that will build up, and require frequent cleaning.
I only use distilled, and only (very) occasionally clean my tank.

Distilled, period. It's cheap...and no more than you use, buy it.

Re: CPAP Water?
Back when I could travel, I would use tap water when I was away from home. If you dry the inside of the chamber after you empty it in the morning, that will help prevent mineral build-up.

Re: CPAP Water?
Municipal tap water should be safe--as long as you can drink it.
Some cities add more chlorine than is palatable--don't use that.
The rule is if you can drink it, you can use it in cpap.
Deliming with vinegar may leave a vinegar odor which can be offset with a bedtime pickle snack.

Re: CPAP Water?
When I travel - I just search out a pharmacy and pay a buck or so to get a gallon of distilled. It is a lot more widely available than I thought. As an added bonus, I have bottled water and CPAP humidifier water.
I personally have noticed that my humidifier is much cleaner when I use distilled but as mentioned, it is not necessary.
