How often you guys switch out hoses?
Haven't posted on here for a long time - amazed I even remembered the password (it wasn't password or 1234 so that killed most of my usual options - got lucky)
I have a dreamstation something or other with the heated humidorfyer - actually have two because Alaska Airlines lost the first on I got coming back from a fishing trip to Yakutat so I bought a replacement two days before the airline found mine - in Bermuda (or Barbados - someplace with a B)
For the most part I am pretty good about dumping the water tank every morning so it doesn't get crudded up, but I usually buy a couple of spare tanks and when they start looking sketchy, I toss em and go with a new one - same with the hoses. There is probably a way to clean them but seems like too much work so I have extry's and just chuck the old ones. I've seen the commercials with Captain Kirk pimping some kind of cleaner machine, but that also looks like a hassle and is probably expensive - could by a couple dozen hoses and tanks for the cost of the cleaner.
Curious how often people swap out hoses - I think I am chucking old ones about every 4-6 months, roughly the same time I get new masks not using the heated hose option trying to keep it simple.
Long time ago, got talked into buying a travel trailer by Wifey as way to travel with the kids and show them the US and I was complete rookie at the RV thing. Towing was no problem because I've been dragging boats all over the Western US since I first got my license - but the RV thing was completely foreign.
For those that don't know, RV's carry around the sewage from the toilets in tanks - this was not something I knew anything about or wanted to know anything about. Despite my best efforts to keep those tanks empty (insisting everyone use the restrooms at the campgrounds etc) there is always an "emergency" with kids and the gray water tank from the sink & shower was full anyway.
So, read the instructions, hooked up the dump hose I bought for this one purpose, dumped the tanks and then threw away the hose. That worked so figured that's how I would do it from there on.
Fast forward a year or two and we are on a long 1 month trip - by now I am an "expert" I have 3 or 4 brand new sewer hoses and every time I have to do the dreaded dump, I chuck the hose and move on. Somewhere in Colorado had to perform the dreaded task and there was a line at the sewer dump so I had an audience watching my operation. Get all gloved up, perform the operation and proceed to throw everything away - holy cats was there an uproar from the viewing audience - two old timers came over to 'splain to me that NO do not throw your hose away, keep it and RE USE IT!!!! Aaaaaaaggggghhhhh, nooooooooo - the idea never occurred to me, what the hell am I supposed to do with the hose, not carry it in the trailer! One of the old timers says look here, and opens up the rear bumper and shows me where the hose is to be stored.....and OMG there is ALREADY A USED HOSE IN THERE - Aaaaaaggggghhhhhh, noooooooo - whose f@cking hose is that and what is it doing in the bumper of my trailer!!!!! - got a pair of long needle nose pliers, drug that thing out of there and chucked that one too....those two old timers were done with my nonsense and left me to my foolishness.
Thinking that maybe I am chucking the facehugger hoses to frequently and reminded me of chucking the RV sewer hoses - you guys getting longer life out of the hoses?
Anyway, never did take to RV'ing very well - had a great time when the kids were little for about 4 or 5 years on adventures with that trailer (and about 47 sewer hoses) but soon as they grew up a bit sold that thing quick as I could.

I swap out my hose on the same schedule I swap out everything.... when it doesn't function properly anymore.
If my hose doesn't have any leaks, if my hose doesn't slip off the mask connection, etc... I see no reason to needlessly contribute to the state of the landfills.

Re: How often you guys switch out hoses?
If you think about it, nothing goes through the hose except for your room air...and even that is filtered. I do not clean my hose...I rinse it with clean tap water every month or so. I have used a hose for well over a year and then cut it open and found that it was as clean as the day I got it. As an added note...I very rarely clean my water tub and rarely change the water...just top it off every two nights. I use distilled water exclusively. Now...this has been my routine for years. You do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Good info - think I might try stretching some more life out of the equipment.

Re: How often you guys switch out hoses?
I had a heated hose that went through 3 different S9 machine and had well over 20 K hours of use on it before it got retired.
It got retired because I changed to the AirSense 10 model machine and it wouldn't work with the new model machine or else I would have still used it.
Current AirSense 10 heated hose...over 3 years worth of use on it and I won't change it unless it no long heats or the cats decide it is a good cat toy.

Re: How often you guys switch out hoses?
Newer hoses tend to be fairly stiff and unpleasant to use;
so I put off opening a new one as long as possible.
Oh, look! I just found a spare, still in the package.
It is easily over a couple years old.
I have no idea when I got it, but maybe I will start using it next spring . . .
Barring unforseen failure, of course.

Re: How often you guys switch out hoses?
About 1 minute, maybe 1:30 in the dryer will soften up hoses nicely. don't go too long or it will melt, last time I tried it, I did it for a minute, checked really quick, and did another 15 seconds, then another, for a total of about 1:30... your times may vary, and the hose will be hot.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 6:16 pmNewer hoses tend to be fairly stiff and unpleasant to use;

Re: How often you guys switch out hoses?
Answer: "ALMOST NEVER".
I have my original (standard/non-heated) hose and another (lightly used) one on two backup/spare machines.
My third (current hose) is several years old now and still going strong.
One of the problems over the years of use is that the ends tend to loosen up and try to slip off. There are ways to remedy that.

Re: How often you guys switch out hoses?
I got my machine Feb 2018.
As soon as I was eligible for replacements, I ordered a new hose, tank mask and pillows. I put my spares away until, the originals wear out. This way should something fail, I can replace.
I'm still on original hose and tank.

I use mine until the cats chew a hole in it. Anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months. A cover has helped with that immensely but now theyve moved on to the mask hose.
