OSA & Narcolepsy

Post by ciaranc06 » Sun Nov 29, 2020 1:49 pm

Hi,

I've been diagnosed with both mild OSA and Narcolepsy. Im a 32 year old, fit and healthy male . For my OSA treatment I've been given the DreamStation CPAP Machine, I've been using it for well over a year now. My average 30day AHI is now 0.8.
For Narcolepsy I take 300MG of Provigil per day (100mg at 9am and 200mg at 1:30pm).

I haven't been seeing much difference or getting the results I was expecting. Does anyone know why this might be? Is there anything else I could be doing. Should I stop taking the tablets if they aren't doing much for me?

What would the next potential diagnosis be if this one is incorrect?

Thank you . :-)

Much difference from what?

You haven't stated what results you expect.

The only outcome you've stated is an AHI of 0.8, which is excellent.

Whether you should discontinue the meds that treat your narcolepsy is a conversation you need to have with your doc. It’s not advisable to stop meds without talking to a doctor. The fact that you aren’t getting the results you hoped for doesn’t mean you were misdiagnosed. Why do you doubt your diagnosis? Did they do a MSLT to diagnose the narcolepsy? Perhaps a higher dosage or one of the other meds that is used to treat narcolepsy might work better for you, talk to your doctor.

Is it the narco or the apnea you want to improve on (not 100% clear from your note)?

Do you find the Provigil keeps you from sleeping deeply at night tho' you're taking it at 1 pm, because if that's the case I wonder what even 1-2 mg of melatonin 1/2 hr before bed would do?

And please download Oscar here and post results so we can see what's what and possibly advise if e.g. pressures might need tweaking, etc.

welcome to the zoo!

what results were you expecting?

but that's enough about them.
