expiration date on aller-flo
expiration date on aller-flo
i bought a five pack of allero-flo at costco. this is their generic equivalent of flonase. i purchased this last year. didn't come across it until unpacked at the new house.
it has an expiration date stamped on the package of 10/20. for those of you wiser than i, does this mean that this product is now useless? or can i expect it to perform as it should?
yeah, yeah- i know. "try it and find out, zonker!" which i prolly will do. but thought i'd check with you guys first.

Re: expiration date on aller-flo
I wouldn't be afraid to use it as long as it had been stored in a cool dark place and hadn't been opened.
I use expired stuff all the time.
Now there are some things that I wouldn't....like eye drops that had been opened for a while or like when I used some old mascara a while back and gave myself an eye infection.

that pretty much describes how it was stored.Pugsy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 8:21 pmI wouldn't be afraid to use it as long as it had been stored in a cool dark place and hadn't been opened.

Re: expiration date on aller-flo
A quick search suggest the only risk is loss of efficacy in this case.
Just to be clear, some medicines can become stronger with time and can be dangerous. Always best to research, or play it safe.
You'll be fine!

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.
Re: expiration date on aller-flo
yup. efficacy was my main concern.
so far, sounds like when my current bottle runs out, i can turn to the "new" old batch.

Re: expiration date on aller-flo
From what I know is after a year it can lose 5%-10% of its efficacy. It tends to lose that much about every year. So it should be fine to use in my opinion for a good long while.

Re: expiration date on aller-flo
Two months is probably safe for OTC antihistamines--Replace them, but for a day or two, not a problem.
Expiration dates are conservative estimates, often allowing up to a year for safety--covering "donkeys", as it were.
Opening the product and taking a whiff can reveal spoilage, like vinegar-y aspirin--toss them now;
or stinky vitamins--main reason I never buy 1 a day--those always stink.
One BIG exception: Nitroglycerin should never be used past six months from purchase.
Always search online when in doubt.
