AirSense 10 cleaning question
AirSense 10 cleaning question
It’s been almost a year since I started using my CPAP equipment. At this time I consider myself a professional cleaning expert, especially on the P10 mask and hose!
My concern however is in regards to the AirSense 10 AUTOSET machine itself. It’s easy to clean the the water chamber, but how do you clean the inside of the machine? I’m not sure if it’s even suggested to do so, but it seems reasonable that inside the area which houses the water chamber should be cleaned at some point, right?
Thanks,
J

Re: AirSense 10 cleaning question
There is nothing for you to clean inside the machine and if you open it up you could void the warranty. There is nothing that goes through the machine except for your filtered room air. Change the filter when necessary. The area of the water chamber can be wiped with a damp cloth. If water gets under the heating plate it could short out.

Re: AirSense 10 cleaning question
So why do you think it's reasonable to think that area needs to be cleaned?
What is going to get in there to grow and multiply that will cause a problem?
The area where the water chamber slides into....just wipe it down with an alcohol wipe. More than enough cleaning.
The other parts of the insides of the machine aren't ever cleaned.
Read the manual..it tells you what you need or don't need to do.

Because it’s a dark and damp area that houses the water chamber.
As someone said, using wipes to clean the that area should be sufficient. Thanks, I’ll be sure to do that. Disassembling the machine in a fashion that would void the warranty was never considered. It’s the area behind and around the water tub that I’m concerned with.

Dark yes...damp no.
Or shouldn't be damp unless you spill the water in it or overfill the water chamber.

Re: AirSense 10 cleaning question
It’s not much I know. The dampness comes after a cleaning, wet fingers, spillage, etc.. Unless I let the water chamber dry for an extended time there usually seems to be at least a slight amount of moisture hiding about. I’ll use the wipes. Sounds like that should be sufficient.

Re: AirSense 10 cleaning question
I'm glad someone asked this question.
So there's a section of the machine that carries the humidified air from the chamber to the hose. Does that section of the machine not get wet and gross and in need of cleaning?

You don't.
That would be 'Wrong'.

Re: AirSense 10 cleaning question
Yep, the humid air passes through an elbow shaped internal plastic port that connects the back of the water chamber to the hose connection point at the rear of the unit. I just took a close look at it with a flashlight. It’s definitely carrying moist air through this port to the hose. I’m sure this area gets missed a lot! A CPAP cleaning wipe passes right through the port and out the other end. I ran the wipe back and forth a few times to clean the port properly.

Re: AirSense 10 cleaning question
I make sure that my water chamber is totally dry before I insert it in the machine.
If I spill a bit pouring water in the chamber...I dry it off.
If I have washed the chamber...I dry it off before it goes back in the machine.
If my hands get wet...I dry them before putting the chamber back in the machine.
But if someone wants to take an alcohol wipe and wipe down the insides of the water chamber portal and that little connecting piece that goes to the long hose....by all means do it if it lets you sleep better at night.
Whatever floats your boat.

Re: AirSense 10 cleaning question
No, it's *not* dark and damp... it's damp *inside the humidifier chamber*. It's only 'dark' when the lights are off, because it's translucent plastic.

Whatever makes you happy.
It's not necessary, read your manual.

Re: AirSense 10 cleaning question
Wrong. The area behind the chamber has two plastic ports. The one towards the back of the unit contains moisture from the chamber. It is dark regardless of your light switch. It needs to be cleaned if you care about cleanliness at all. The seals on the plastic tubes (also behind the chamber) are in a dark and damp area as well. They can be cleaned with a wipe.

We all clean to the level we are comfortable with. If you feel a need to clean those areas, that is up to you. I don't feel I have the right to tell someone what they should or should not clean. I may sometimes describe what I clean and how I do it, but it is the level of clean my wife and I are comfortable with.

Re: AirSense 10 cleaning question
Been using CPAP for ten years. Still at the rank amateur cleaning level. No problems so far.
People clean the hose??
