Post nasal drip interference

Post by Scubamom55 » Tue Mar 23, 2021 11:30 am

I have been having a fair amount of post nasal drip over the past couple of weeks, which seems to interfere with my nasal pillows use. I wake up & have to almost constantly swallow. I do have asthma but have had it for years & haven't had this problem with the CPAP until recently. I take Claritin every morning (for some allergies) & have been taking Nasonex spray in the evening as well. I plan to try stopping the Nasonex tonight for a few days to see if there is any difference.
Any suggestions/comments?
Thx

I had a big change in post-nasal drips when my allergist switched me to Montelukast (a new way of intervening in the allergy process) and a spray called Azelastine. I still use Nasonex, but those two are the foundations. If you've got a doctor, ask about this combo.

And, for sure, use nasal irrigation at least twice a day. You don't need a prescription and it makes a big difference in post-nasal drip for many people. An easy approach is the Neilmed product -- you get a plastic bottle to use to put the saline solution into your nose and many small packets of prepared saline. (Costco sells it, if you have access to that store, but it's easily available in drugstores and on line.) Don't use it just prior to putting on your mask, as you will need to let it settle for a bit to see if there are pockets that want to empty out.

Thx for that. I do have a nasal rinse system, but hadn't thought about it for this issue. Will give it a try today.

I use a nasal mask. Sleepweaver 3D.
I have had a nasal drip as long as I can remember. Sometimes really bad, like constant. Other times not so bad.
Somehow, when I put on my mask it stops. I am thankful.
If my nights were as bad as my days the past couple years, I would go through maskS daily.

post nasal drip over the past couple of weeks
Talk about your humidifier settings, local climate and bedroom relative humidity.

Past couple of weeks - spring pollens have appeared.

I have had post nasal drip for many years due to teeny sinuses and other anatomical difficulties. I use my neti pot and take guaifenesin tablets every day, and during allergy season I take Quercetin capsules every day and use generic flonase at night. Those all help with sneezing and such, but the runny nose and drip are always there. I sleep on my back, so everything just runs down my throat at night. My pap therapy is not bothered by it. Maybe some or all of these could help you. Best of luck with whatever you try!
