Is it necessary to clean new CPAP supplies?
Is it necessary to clean new CPAP supplies?
I just received a new mask, hose and water tank, and wanted to switch out all my old gear. However, I got in doubt about whether or not I should clean it all before using it for the first time.
Previously I have not done so, but I'm not sure if that's me being careless?
All the supplies have been sent to me from the hospital handling and monitoring my sleep apnea treatment, and were packaged in what I assume is standard ResMed packaging.
Do I risk anything, by using it as is, or is it more of a comfort thing?

comfort thing.
and i predict that this thread will turn into a gigantic argument between those of us who don't clean and those who devoutly clean their equipment.

I don't, but I generally don't wash anything new or used.
Yes, I'm a slob--but challenging my immunity helps keep me healthy.
If your immunity is not reliable, then go for the big time cleaning routine--
soap and water is all you really need.
Clean yourself silly--and don't be shamed for it.

Re: Is it necessary to clean new CPAP supplies?
If it were necessary to clean the equipment and supplies prior to first use, then the instructions would say as much.
But, as pointed out already, it's all about one's comfort level. If you spending a few minutes clean it makes you feel better, go for it.

Re: Is it necessary to clean new CPAP supplies?
The equipment is sealed when made, IN a sanitary environment. But if you WANT to clean it, feel totally free to do so. You DON'T even have to tell anyone if you do clean it.Bev07 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 10:48 amI just received a new mask, hose and water tank, and wanted to switch out all my old gear. Re: Is it necessary to clean new CPAP supplies?
They're medical supplies, they're held to a higher standard than say, jeans sold off the back of a truck that'd been carrying fertilizer and thus caused strange illnesses in the teens that bought them.

Note:this does not apply to anything NOT in sealed factory packing,
whether dispensed by a shady DME or out of the back of a van in the Walmart parking lot.

i think the more important question here is, is it necessary to thank people for their replies to your question?
