Nocturia Or bedwetting.
Nocturia Or bedwetting.
Very embarrassing question. Started using a CPAP February 1, 2021. Prior to getting on the CPAP,
I would get out of bed 4 to 5 times a night having to Pee.
Since I’ve been on the CPAP that’s been cut down to sometimes 2 or 3 times a night. I have purposely tried to cut that back, I am been watching my scores with my
air sense 10.
But now I seem to have a problem with nocturia or bed wetting. This is been going on for now 30+ days. At first I thought perhaps I was drinking too much fluids at night. But now I’m not sure what the cause might be. It’s very embarrassing to be a 60-year-old male wetting the bed 3 times a night.
I have never been a good sleeper and perhaps this is only happening when I’m in a deep sleep versus a light sleep. I intend to see a urologist to discuss this issue. Has anybody else had this problem?
I take no medications at all and hopefully won’t need to because of this issue but I need to figure out why all of a sudden I’m having a problem with bedwetting.

Re: Nocturia Or bedwetting.
It would also be helpful to know if you're male or female... diff. scenarios at your age to consider.
Re: Nocturia Or bedwetting.
I just corrected the posting. I’m a male
Re: Nocturia Or bedwetting.
Has your doctor done any prostate checks recently?
Re: Nocturia Or bedwetting.
No I plan on making a Doctors appointment with a urologist. Prior to Covid I was going to do that regarding frequent urination at night. I never had this problem in the past.
I did call a urologist office last week and they did not call back.
I don’t know if it’s because I’m trying to not get up as often that this is happening. I was hopeful that the CPAP machine would allow me not to get up as many times per night. Perhaps I have sabotaged my own routine

Re: Nocturia Or bedwetting.
Well the machine should (theoretically) help, but if you have other things going on... hope you can line up a doctor, or if nec. even go to a walk-in or Emerg.
Re: Nocturia Or bedwetting.
I actually feel very good I don’t seem to have any other issues going on. Hopefully it’s nothing serious other than my trying to not get up as often during the night.

What is your AHI running on the machine LCD display?
Do you know about OSCAR?
OSCAR https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.ph ... rpretation
For sure see a doctor. What you are experiencing isn't normal.
There are lots of reasons for nocturia and sleep apnea is but one reason on the list. CPAP optimized will usually help a lot with nocturia but it wouldn't be impossible for something else to be going on as well and the cpap can fix a problem that isn't related to the airway.

@Dkc04 - I would like to 0ffer some encouragement. As a 76 year old male with an enlarged prostate (not cancerous), I used to get up 4-5 times a night too. After starting CPAP in January 2021, I get up max 1 time per night -- and often Zero times. So there you have it.
I understand 50% of men over age 50, and 80% of men over age 80, have an enlarged prostate. Some cancerous, some not. Don't put this off. See a urologist.

Re: Nocturia Or bedwetting.
I have not explored Oscar yet. But my daily numbers on my Air Score are averaging 90 to 95. A couple times I hit even 98.
But there were a couple of mid 85.
My compliance has been almost every night with the exception of two over the period of time I’ve had the CPAP.
I average 6 hours of sleep.

Re: Nocturia Or bedwetting.
The "score" from MyAir really doesn't mean much.
I asked what the AHI was.
Though I assume with a score in the 90s that the AHI should be relatively low but always best to make sure.

Re: Nocturia Or bedwetting.
My AHI the last six days are:
4.5
1.6
3.7
2.6
3.4
3.9
I am known for snoring very loudly. When I was married my wife would sleep in another room. I’m divorced now but I don’t know how loud I am snoring.
I would assume that using the CPAP it is help cut my snoring down.
When I first started on the CPAP the AHI was 15.0 avg.
I am actually shocked at the reading. Does that seem correct

Re: Nocturia Or bedwetting.
Gradual improvement of your AHI is a very good sign.
Reducing water intake before bed is not a good idea.
You need to see a urologist--soon, if possible.
When a provider tries to get me into a game of phone tag, I show up in person.
I am polite, but I let them know I am anxious--apologetic, if necessary.
They tend to put a bit more weight on my calls now.
