DIY adhesive strips like Nozeseal

Post by dorilou28 » Sat May 15, 2021 12:39 pm

Hi everyone,

First time posting here but long time CPAP user. I am using a Bleep mask which I just got. I am done with headgear so I moved to this one. I'm still getting use to it and not sleeping well yet. I have an Airsense 10 APAP machine which is also new as I had to go from a CPAP to an APAP.

I like the Nozeseal adhesive strips but they are too expensive for me.

Does anyone have DYI tips for adhesive strips or tape I can use that are like NozeSeal? I thought I would try to make them myself with some type of tape, but wanted to ask if you use tape and what kind do you use? What tape sticks to these silicone nasal pillows? I have been googling and I find some, but I wanted to ask who here has made some yourself before I go crazy and buy all kinds of tape.

Thanks so much.....Dori

I would think that depending on how creative you are, could you make something with some kind of heavy plastic, etc. that you could then just stick together at the top of your nose with e.g. 3M tape (used all the time for lip sealing - comes off easily) after using astringent on your nose before taping (to prevent it loosening o-nite from oils). NS prices are pretty high!

Most tapes do not adhere well to silicone. That's why Nozeseal uses a craddle with holes to accommodate and support the pillows.

From the Nozeseal video on YouTube, you can see that the portion that touches the pillows isn't sticky.

As New2me123 noted the mask frames used in the promotional photos are Nuance Pro and P10.

Of the two, Nuance does not need any modding. Whereas you need to cut off the headgear strap guides for the P10.

So for a DIY version you need to provide some sort of craddle with handles to attach tape.

Take a clear sandwich bag, fold it a few times for strength into a strip.

Wrap a little bit of micropore tape in the center so that the strap does not unravel.

With thick enough flexible plastic you can skip the above steps and just cut a strip. Plastic from thick trash bags might work.

Cut 2 slits on the strap to insert the cushions.

Insert the pillow.

Trim off the strip on the outside of the pillow leaving enough so there is enough surface for handles.

Wrap more 3M micropore on the handles to tidy it up.

Experiment with the proper amount of Micropore tape needed on the handles to secure the gear on your face.

You can also try 3M Microfoam and NexCare Absolute Waterproof.

Hypafix and Cover-Roll are probably too sticky.

Best of luck.

If you cut the P10 headgear guide below the catch, you probably will still be able to use the headgear if the DIY doesn't work out.
