Resmed Airmini without humidification?

Post by ThierryD » Sat Jun 26, 2021 9:42 am

More than 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with sleepapnea (AHI 51 with horrible snoring). From the very beginning my Cpap therapy was great a success. With an average pressure of only 9, my AHI drops to 0,2 these days and I no longer snore. I have never ever used a humidifier.

Some days ago I decided to retire my 5 year old Deamstation Auto and replaced it with a Resmed A10 Autoset. The Resmed Airfit P10 has been my choice of mask since it 1st came out.
I absolutely love the Resmed A10 but it seems a little bulky to travel.

The Resmed Air Mini looks looks like a good investment for my travels but why does Resmed, wants me to ad humidification to my therapy? Would it be foolish no to opt for the HumidX and a buy a 3d party adaptor?

Most people do need some added moisture...some need only a little and some need a lot. You happen to belong to a small group that doesn't need it so don't worry about it.

There are people using the AirMini with modifications so they can use the mask of their choice but I am zero help in that area.
Sorry but I need maximum humidity for my nasal mucosa to be happy so I have never really looked at any of the tiny travel machines because I already know they won't/can't meet my humidity needs.

I bet some of those people will stop by and tell you how they modified things so they weren't forced to use the special masks...though I think there is one for the P10.

Hi there!
I am one who has hacked my AirMini to use my mask of choice, the Bleep.

For what it's worth, I DO use humidification every night at home with my AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her. But it is more important for me to be able to use my Bleep than to use the Humid-X cartridge, especially since I was never able to tolerate the P10 mask! I, too, got my AirMini for travel after a run-in at an international airport where they would not exempt my CPAP (clearly labeled as a medical device) from the carry-on count and wanted me to either consolidated it into my carry-on or check it. I got home and ordered an AirMini before my next trip! I chose the AirMini despite the reports of noise because I could set it up EXACTLY the same as my home machine. The hose hack, while removing the Humid-X cartridge, has had the unexpected side benefit of significantly reducing noise. It is now pretty quiet. I still hear it but hubby does not.

I know there are others here who have bought some kind of muffler attachment for noise and there is also an adapter that you can either 3D print (I don't have access to a 3D printer) or order to be able to use any hose. But if you are using the P10, you should not need the adapter, there is a P10 for the AirMini. Just be aware, your P10 won't fit the AirMini. It uses proprietary masks (hence my hack or the need for an adapter for other masks.

Let me know if you have any questions!
