particles coming from my silver plate at bottom of water container!!

Post by blondie507 » Thu Jul 22, 2021 8:10 pm

I just went to fill my water container for my CPAP machine. I just noticed particles floating around. I dumped the water out, rinsed it really good and added fresh new water. There were more particles again! I notice the silver plate at the bottom has stuff coming off of it. I am afraid to use my CPAP now until I could find out what this is. I sure don't want to breath this stuff into my lungs. Anyone know why my silver plate seems to be coming apart or something?? Or could that be mold on the silver plate? Thanks.

. . . no clue at all . . .
Brand name might help, model name would help more.

When somebody called in to Click and Clack with a problem,
they usually knew what model car they had.
We should be so lucky.

You CAN'T breathe those particles because they CAN'T be carried out of your HH tank!!!
Whatever they are, they are too big for the water vapor molecules to carry them out of the HH tank.

YOU ARE IN NO DANGER!!!

In the future, try to be more specific about what equipment you are using.

How long have you been using this humidifier water container? It sounds like it is time to simply replace it with a new water container. They do not last forever.

It's not going to hurt you. Clean it or replace it.

Loose particles floating in the water is could be bacterial or fungal--
they grow from bits floating in the air in your home.
I wash my tank when I see "floaters". They are almost always harmless.
Mineral deposits on the bottom may appear if you are not using distilled water.
Also harmless--vinegar or lemon juice will dissolve them easily.
Nothing takes the place of soap and water--and a wee bit of elbow grease.
If you were fooled into buying/using a SoClean, take it back and demand a refund.
Your machine is completely effed up. Now you know.

It's probably mineral buildup. give it a soak in vinegar.

Have you cleaned/replaced your intake air filter lately?
In any case, you are in no danger of inhaling those particles and for all intents and purposes, they came from your dwelling where you breathe them UNFILTERED all the time. It's just that now you can see them floating in your water chamber. They'll stay there until you dump the tank. Actually, some people have stuff accumulating in their HH tanks from cleaning them TOO MUCH. I also presume you're using distilled water?

thanks everyone. :) I'm going to clean it - maybe soak it in vinegar. It seems like it is coming from the silver plate at the bottom of the container. It's a Resmed. I'm going to call them. My husband has one also, and he doesn't have floaty things in his water. Maybe the silver plate has build up on it, or ..... it's coming off?? IDK. I will call the company next week and clean the water tank tomorrow.

Hard water can leave chalky deposits in the tank.
Only distilled or extremely soft ground water will not leave lime scale.
I tried RO water (reverse osmosis), and it still left a white deposit in the tank.

There's nothing "coming off" the metal. that's stainless steel.

Soak it with vinegar before you make more posts.
