NightLase anyone tried it?

Post by KTinTexas » Tue Aug 03, 2021 11:59 am

My regular dentist is now offering NightLase. Has anyone had it with success? Is it expensive? I've been using CPAP for 4 years now but have had problems keeping the mask on all night, so I am interested in alternative treatments. Lately, however, my time with the mask has increased and I attribute to taking a larger dose of Magnesium every night (it's the only thing that has changed in my routine). Well, that and I got a strap for my mask with the little "arms" that help keep it on. I have gone from 2 to 3 hours every night to consistently 4 or 5 hours. Great improvement.

Just a brand name for laser treatment for SNORING,
which is not the same thing as apnea.
Without treating apnea, you will just die more quietly.
Many of us will die quietly; but given a choice, I hope to raise a big fuss.

Science doesn't support its use for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.
-------------------->
Er:YAG laser is shown to be effective in a way to reduce snoring without significant AHI or RDI changes.

Yes. Sounds like you are well on the way to a good CPAP therapy. CPAP is the gold standard for sleep apnea treatment. I would encourage you to stick with it. Maybe work on your sleep hygiene. Most of us could make some improvement in that area. It can help with your CPAP program.

Are you following your CPAP statistics and maybe using OSCAR to make sure your CPAP settings are optimized?

Good luck!

please don't take this the wrong way. i'm not trying to score points off of you. and i didn't read far because i stopped at $1,000.00 dollars per treatment!! no thanks.

this is a cpap forum. i don't see why anyone who has tried it would be hanging around here.

if you want some details, just google it. you'll see some stuff and then can make up your own mind.

good luck!

Here's a reason. They tried it, it didn't work, and they came back to CPAP.

I did Google it. I posted on here to get the kind of honesty that appears on this site. When you Google, you get lots of Vendor biased publicity posts.

The presence of snoring doesn't guarantee that sleep apnea is also present.
The absence of snoring doesn't guarantee that sleep apnea is also absent.
People can snore like a freight train and not have sleep apnea and people can have sleep apnea that is quite severe and not really snore at all.

Treatment designed for just for snores...meaningless in terms of sleep apnea treatment.

Plus the really big question.....will insurance companies (like Medicare) pay for it?????
And even if Medicare "allowed" it....would the provider doing it accept what Medicare says they should be happy with in terms of reimbursement. They usually allow pennies on the dollar and a lot of providers aren't happy with pennies on the dollar. Gotta pay for that new expensive machine.

Might not be a problem for someone with deep pockets but I don't think OP here falls into that category.
She has a long history of having problems with traditional cpap therapy and is grasping for straws for alternative therapies....and she is on Medicare if I remember right. I get the impression not with deep pockets either.
I think if I were in her shoes (looking hard for alternative therapy) I would look for clinical trials of alternatives so I could experiment and have someone else pay for the experiment.

The problem that I see with NightLase...is a problem I have been noticing a LOT over the past 20 years with dentists.

They are doing any and everything to make an extra buck.

Some medical salesman comes into the dentist office and in a typical sales pitch, explains to the dentist that he could be making an extra $100-200k per year by pushing the latest version of snake oil.

At my last visit, my own dentist tried offering me some sort of laser bacteria treatment (for only $40)...this is after he's been convincing my wife to buy some $20 rinse that's guaranteed to reduce the build-up of plaque in between cleanings.

I'm also seeing it in the eye doctor visits - the last time we went, they offered us some sort of new "laser" computerized thingy that would replace the dilation drops we've all gotten for years when going to the annual eye doctor visit....oh, it was another $40 to avoid having your eyes dilatated.

it's no different than the BS fabric protection or undercoating that car dealers try to sell on new (and used) cars).

Oh, and who can forget the BS with "Nitrogen" in your tires...as it's less likely to leak over time! (and the air we breath is 78% nitrogen)

Sorry....just had to rant!
* This is the internet - what I write will probably NOT come across as it would in person; where one can read a person's face.
My posts are sometimes tongue & cheek w/some snarky sarcasm mixed in.
I leave it up to you to figure it out!

When I purchased my present car, I told the dealership I was not interested in any of the extra add-ons. He asked me to pick out three I thought might be a good thing to do. After I refused to play his silly game the second time, I told him if he asked me one more time, I would simply tear up the $10,000 down payment check I had just written and go somewhere else to buy my car. That shut him up. :P
