Filter change interval

How often should I change the filter on my Resmed Airsense 10? Every time I check it it looks ok to me.

Just as a reference, if I remember to change mine, it's around every 6 months. I think ResMed officially recommends 3-month intervals.
When I do change mine, placing the new one and the old one side by side shows no distinguishable difference, but I change it anyway. I do, however, have an air purifier in my bedroom which probably helps some.

The filters are dirt cheap so the change interval is really dependent on your level of cleanliness. I personally think 6 months is about as long as you should wait.

Actually ResMed says 6 months or sooner if it appears soiled or damaged.

i change mine when it's dirty. just checked (and changed) mine last week.

won't even check it for several months.

in other words, i don't have a schedule.

I hear you...mine is 4 weeks in my old dusty house.
Though we have added better filters for the whole house air return and at 4 weeks my filters aren't quite as tired looking.

The way filters work. the dirtier they get the better they filter, (take out smaller ) the particles. Problem comes from reduced flow, and or in the case of XPAP, flow and or pressure to the mask, cooling of the XPAP and signal from the data. Jim

I have little dirt in my house due to the A/C and other filters running, so I usually go 3 weeks unless the hose temp warms up.

Medicare and my healthcare provider say twice a month. Filters are cheap. Why NOT do it often and be sure. Sometimes overkill is better.

Show me where Medicare says twice a month. Documentation please.

And the fact that Medicare will pay for 2 a month does NOT mean they say to change twice a month.

And DMEs....they always conveniently say to replace something as often as insurance will pay for it. It's all about making money.

Ever think that maybe the manufacturer might actually have a good reason for their recommendations?

The only thing you were correct about is that filters are relatively cheap and it doesn't hurt to change them however often a person wants to change them. Hell, change them daily for all I care but don't go confusing replacement allowance with what is recommended,

What is recommended is what the manufacturer says to do.

I just change ours every three months when I change to furnace filters. And yes, I said filters. We have two return lines going back to the furnace, one on each side of the house.

Change it when it doesn't look OK.

The clinical manual says "every 6 months or more often if needed".

For some people, every 6 months is probably wasteful.

For others, every couple weeks might be appropriate.

it all depends on how dusty your bedroom is.

NO! Medicare does NOT say "twice a month".

Medicare says "We won't pay for these things more often than twice a month", they do NOT say that you need to replace them that often.

Your drug dealer, er, "healthcare provider" (HAH) tells you to waste money and replace them as often as Medicare or insurance will pay for more, SO THAT THEY MAKE MORE MONEY.

Don't be a fool.

PS, Resmed recommends replacing filters less often than Respironics, because their filters larger, so they don't need to be replaced as often.

Not to beat a dead horse, but is the AirSense filter washable? ResMed does not mention to wash the filter in its manual so I don’t know. I’m coming from a Resprionics machine, where it had a washable filter.

Also, does anyone know if ResMed offers a second filter? Resprionics has a main filter and a Hepa filter. I wouldn’t be opposed to adding a hepa filter to my ResMed machine cuz I have allergies

Visual inspection is the key to determining disposable filter life. Typically, you should change your filter every six months, but if your environment is particularly humid or dusty, the disposable filter won't last as long."

Not that I know of, but you can use an in-line anti-bacterial filter. When doing so you need to adjust your settings to indicate such a filter is in use. It should meet Resmed specs.

AFIK, ResMed filters are not washable. They're so cheap, there's really no need to. I've heard of people washing them, but I would make sure it's completely dry if I bothered with this.
There is no second, tandem filter like the DreamStation has. HEPA filter would be your best bet for allergies.
