Are "in-line filters" legit and useful? or just a scam?

Per the Philips recall about the foam particles, someone online mentioned using "in-line filters" such as these which can help strain out some of the foam particles (if there are any in the first place). Apparently people use them anyway thinking it cleans the air.

This seems kind of scammy or overrated, but I don't know for sure since I don't know what they are made out of or have any specs on them (like what is the particle size they can filter down to, etc)
On another note, on the recall thing, I wonder if it's more than just particles - I thought I heard it can release fumes when heated as well, so that would not be caught in a generic filter.

Any thoughts on those filters and if they would really help with anything?

Inline filters (Antibacterial) can be of huge value, especially to allergy sufferers.

When using one on a ResMed, ensure that you turn on the AB setting as they affect the pressure. The AB setting adjusts for the difference.

One of the problems with using one on Respironics, is there isn't setting to allow for the device to accomodate for the different pressure because of the AB filter.

About the recall. A contributing factor to the recall was VOC fume higher than safe levels. Allegedly, during the first day or so, some VOCs were higher than safe levels but soon lowered to acceptable levels. An AB filter would not have helped. Some claim that when the foam broke down, unsafe VOCs were then released again, but I've never seen anything authoritative verifying that.

We had some lying around (unopened), that I ordered for the bullfrog awhile back.
When my oncologist told me that my white count was low,
I opened a new one for my hose. No idea how effective it can be, but whatever . . .
I found the AB filter setting in my machine, and turned it on.
It looks like my pet snake swallowed a mouse.

My Airsense 10 Autoset for her is "vewwy, vewwy" quiet.

unfortunately, i am one of those in the minority. i'm getting a distinct buzzing sound out of the blower and up the hose (i think) but definitely getting the buzz.

currently combating it via noise machine and earbuds.

Do you use the blanking plate, or a humidifier chamber? I could hear a motor whine through the AB filter with the blanking plate on, but not with the humidifier tank.

Regardless, it may *change* the sound you hear, so it's worth a try, and will cut out some allergens, if those bother you.

I might give them a try and see if it helps reduce my stuffy nose.

And the AB setting tip is really useful as well - I will probably be getting a resmed device

The AB setting just compensates for the extra flow resistance that the AB filter introduces into the circuit.
I use AB filters myself, not because I'm afraid of bacteria or anything, but because they help to trap more allergens, and I breathe better at night with the filters when I might have a stuffy nose during the day.
