Portable Oxygen Concentrator/CPAP

Post by thebrit » Sun Oct 31, 2021 10:56 am

I use a ResMed CPAP machine and am trying to find a continuous flow portable concentrator for travel. I think the only unit maybe the Respironics Simply Go unit but I cannot get a straight answer from anyone if these two units are compatible. The supplier of my CPAP has given me an Inogen one G5 but the manufacturer stated it cannot be used with a CPAP machine as it only delivers a pulse flow. I only use 1LPM overnight. I am totally confused, can anyone answer my question, hope so. Thank you.

I found it on the first try:

"The Philips Respironics SimplyGo oxygen concentrator delivers effective oxygen therapy in a lightweight, easily portable design. Weighing just under 10 pounds, the SimplyGo produces an impressive maximum output of 2 liters per minute (LPM) with both continuous flow and pulse-dose oxygen modes. It also offers a special sleep mode. The SimplyGo can run on battery power for up to 3 hours. It comes with a mobile DC (car) charger and carrying case with wheeled pull-cart for a reliable portable oxygen therapy solution."

Thank you but I still don't have a definitive answer as I do need continuous oxygen and not pulse flow. Am I to assume that the Simply Go will work with my Resmed Air Sense 10?

Why do you think you need a continuous-flow POC? My wife has used a stationary concentrator when at home and a POC when we travel. Both produce equally satisfactory results for her, as confirmed by pulse oximeter measurements. I'm no scientist but it seems to me that you need oxygen only when you inhale and the rest of the continuous flow oxygen is wasted. And 1l/M is such a tiny dose anyway.

I am suggesting you challenge the assumption that continuous-flow is needed. IF your doc or a respiratory therapist says so, ask why he/she is of that opinion.

on-demand oxygen concentrators only supply O2 when they sense an inhalation.

When you connect them to a CPAP they don't supply O2 because they never sense an inhalation, because of the constant pressure of the CPAP.

Well known issue.

Palerider is correct, you must use a "continuous flow" portable with an apap/cpap/bipap.
Here is some info. on POC's and you can compare them. Your "supplier" may try and sell you something just because that is the brand they carry. Personally I would get a copy of the RX and shop online.

I would not buy a machine that only supplied the O2 I need, get one that will supply more. I have found that I have to up my O2 setting at night to get enough.

Thank you all for your replies. I need a continuous air flow as occasionally, my breathing becomes very shallow therefore a
pulse flow would not give me the 1 LPM I need. I am very interested in the Respironics Simply Go unit - does anyone have knowledge of this unit when working in tandem with my ResMed CPAP machine?

There's no interoperation between the two machines, ie, you just hook the O2 line to the cpap, doesn't matter what brand it is. If you're using one of the heated hoses on a Resmed, you can get the 'oxy' version, which has an oxygen connector on the hose itself, no adapter needed.
