Are Dreamwear Gel Pillows Discontinued?? Supplier started sending Silicone Pillows instead
Are Dreamwear Gel Pillows Discontinued?? Supplier started sending Silicone Pillows instead
I've had my CPAP for a couple of years now and have been doing awesome with it, partly why I've been off CPAP Talk for a few years too! The other month, my supplier started sending me the new Silicone Pillows for my Phillips Dreamwear mask instead of the Gel Pillows I like to use. I thought it was just a mistake (and thankfully had some extras saved up just in case) so I requested they make sure to send Gel Pillows next time. They assured me that they would, but sent the Silicone pillows again!!
I read that the Gel Pillows might be discontinued? Is this true? I see them on the Phillips website. Do I need to start buying them up and hording, or finding a new mask? The Silicone pillows do NOT work well for me. They seem super flimsy and leak even when I'm just sitting still and not lying down. I sleep on my side and they immediately collapse when I lay down on my side.
Has anyone switched to Silicone pillows from gel? Do I just need to get a different size? I'm a woman with a normal-sized nose, but was getting Small headgear and a Medium Gel Pillow attachment since that's what seemed to work best for me. I'm wondering if M for Silicone pillows is too big. I adjusted my Gel Pillow mask so the pillows were kind of mashed up against my nostrils and no air could get out at all. On the Silicone Pillows, there's a lot of Silicone from each pillow outside my nostril when I'm wearing it, should most of the "pillow" part be inside my nose? Any tips for fitting these?
I'm so angry because I was doing so well with my CPAP use and feeling great. Then this had to happen to mess everything up. Don't even get me started on the Dreamstation recall that I wasn't even notified about/aware of until OCTOBER. UGH. I'm still working my way through all the threads on it. I talked to my doctor and plan to keep using my machine, maybe will purchase one out of pocket since I'm probably WAY down on the replacement list from Phillips and not due for an insurance replacement for another couple of years.
In case you don't know what I'm talking about, these are the gel pillows:

I couldn't get on the Philips website but from what I have read it does appear that the gel pillows are being discontinued.
I have no idea if a different size in the new version would work out better for you or not. Something you could try I suppose.
In the meantime perhaps stock pile any that you can buy now since they are still out there and available until shelf inventory is used up.

If you are lucky, you may be able to find them for sale online.
Good luck!
Don'cha just hate it when this happens?
Just another rotten move by Philips.

Thanks everyone! I guess I'll have to stock up and order a bunch of sizes of the new part (or get a new mask)

I would move away from ANYTHING respironics, including masks.

The old part number, 1125046 for size medium, continues to be available on Amazon and eBay, often at less than the Medicare reimbursement price. I have purchased 35 pillows from these two sources. My most recent purchase was 14 pillows for $125.
The question remains, how often should I change pillows?

That was my thought as well. Those nasal pillows are sturdy for sure and with common sense care can easily last a year.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 6:25 pmOnce per year.jeepdoctor wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 3:34 pmThe question remains, how often should I change pillows?
I have got 10 months out of nasal pillows and the only reason I replaced them was just yucky looking which has nothing to do with function.

Gel seems to be sturdier than non-gel; but both appear to be silicone.

The one full face mask that worked for my face was the respironics comfort gel,
which I used for several months. It was a heavy beast, but it FIT!
