Humidifier issue with Luna II CPAP machine
I have had the Luna II since the first of December. (it replaced my recall Phillips machine). My issue/question regards the heated humidifier. I have been waking up with severe dry mouth and my nasal passages are dry and painful. I have been using CPAP for over 10 years and never had this problem. With my old machine, I could see the water in the humidifier tank bubble after I started my machine and if I removed the humidifier tank immediately after turning my old machine off, the plate on the bottom of the humidifier tank would be extremely hot. With this new Luna II machine, I can hardly see the water move in the humidifier and removing the tank immediately after use results with only a slightly warm bottom plate and the water in the tank only lukewarm . I am beginning to wonder if there is an issue with the humidifier. Has anyone else experienced this?

First, I would guess you're still within your warranty period - ask your DME or call the company to inquire with them about the humidification. Hopefully someone will be by to answer unit specific questions as I don't have your machine.
Second, when you saw the humidifier tank bubble, was that a hot water boiling type bubble or air bubbles like in a fish aquarium? I'm pretty sure your machine was not getting hot enough to percolating coffee or tea (although, I like the thought)! My own ResMed machine heating plate heats up to a warm temp, but I can still touch it without getting burned.
When my humidifier runs in my ResMed AS 10, I can see the top of the water "move" or vibrate, as the air is drawn across the top of it...is that what you meant?
Sorry I don't have an answer for you...but when I saw that your water in your old tank was bubbling, I was baffled (no pun intended)!

BTW, what was your old machine?

Sounds like your old machine was dangerously defective. Water in a CPAP should NEVER get hot enough to bubble, that would be inviting steam burns to your lungs.inyourdreams wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 3:52 pmWith my old machine, I could see the water in the humidifier tank bubble after I started my machine and if I removed the humidifier tank immediately after turning my old machine off, the plate on the bottom of the humidifier tank would be extremely hot.

Re: Humidifier issue with Luna II CPAP machine
Not many here have this make cpap so your responses will be slim. But I'm gonna guess it will depend on what your heat setting for the humidifier is. Can you turn it up some more?inyourdreams wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 3:52 pmafter use results with only a slightly warm bottom plate and the water in the tank only lukewarm .

Here is another option for you if you can't turn the heat up any more.@inyourdreams

Re: Humidifier issue with Luna II CPAP machine
JLROhio, your description of water bubbles in an aquarium tank was more accurate than me saying the water boiled. However to bring all that responded up to date, I have spoken with a clinician at 3B Medical (the manufacturer of my Luna machine) as well as my DME provider and my Sleep Center provider. In fact, I met with my Sleep Center provider yesterday and took my machine with me. This morning I got a call from the DME provider telling me that they have been instructed by my Sleep Center provider to replace the machine. I assume that they realized there is something wrong with the humidifier. At present, they do not have a new machine to give me but expect a shipment next week. They asked if I would like a ResMed CPAP machine and I said yes because I have heard ResMed is very good. Thanks to all for your input.
Re: Humidifier issue with Luna II CPAP machine
Thank-goodness your CPAP is not "boiling" water - although, that would make for some humid air!inyourdreams wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 2:36 pmJLROhio, your description of water bubbles in an aquarium tank was more accurate than me saying the water boiled. I have a video I took of the air blowing over the water that I'm in the middle of uploading...I'll link it here in a bit. Stand-By!
Also, as to requesting a ResMed - Good For you! You'll probably be much happier with that machine. Somehow, from what I read, although 3B Medical is a US company (at least I think it is), I believe your CPAP is still from China. The 3B company name seems like a Chinese knockoff of 3M!

Re: Humidifier issue with Luna II CPAP machine
Last night, after filling my water chamber, I ran the "Mask Fit" option on my machine.
In this below video, you can see the water moving due to the force of the air over the top of it...making it look like it's bubbling up or boiling I guess.
Anyway, I'm curious if this may be similar to what the OP ( @inyourdreams ) was referring to?

Re: Humidifier issue with Luna II CPAP machine
That is exactly how the water in my old humidifier tank looked. The water danced. This new machine, the water barely moves which is why I knew something was wrong with the humidifier. Thanks so much for your input! Hopefully I will get my new machine sooner rather than later!
Re: Humidifier issue with Luna II CPAP machine
If your humidifier is set to max, the water should be very warm or hot to the touch. However, it should not be nearly hot enough for water to boil! That certainly would be unsafe.
If the water is only room temperature, the humidifier is not functioning correctly (or is switched off).
BTW, I believe that you cannot adjust the humidifier in that machine if there's water present in the tank.

Re: Humidifier issue with Luna II CPAP machine
Air flow has nothing to do with function of the humidifier, just with the design of how the air flows over it.inyourdreams wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 8:38 pmThis new machine, the water barely moves which is why I knew something was wrong with the humidifier.
Different machine, different design, different behavior.

Oh, but if a CPAP could boil water AND make coffee!!!

I love waking up to the sweet smell of fresh brewed coffee!!

If Only!!
