1. Why the hell would a CPAP manufacturer design a case so that the humidifier had to be removed? Just a greater opening for contaminants to enter the machine!
Simple, it's eliminates the strain on the joints/connections between the water tank an the machine. It's *smarter* to pack the parts separately, just like with the S9, the bag was designed to prevent stress on the connection between the humidifier and blower by detaching them when packing them for transport.

2. The case has slots for the power cord and transformer, and a hose. Well, scheiße, that won't work without a mask. Why not make the case large enough for a section that would hold an FFM?
There's room in my case for a hose, mask and power cord.

Am I missing something? Or is this just a case of don't-give-a-damn-about-the-user?
Or, just not understanding how to pack things in the case, and why.

To stop people from carelessly packing it with water still in the Humidifier.
Or that... I bought a machine from someone and when I opened the bag, I found that they'd just picked up the whole machine, and dropped it into the bag, with the two halves still attached, and water in the humidifier chamber.
it was one of those crappy Respironics bags that didn't have padding, or separate pockets for the different parts. another ding against Respironics, not including a *
travel* bag with their stuff.

Since I rarely use the humidifier, what about getting a side plate to make the machine slightly smaller for travel?
With the humidifier removed, will the machine be louder?
TIA guys!
Thanks for this post. I just ordered a side cover. Seems like it will work well and I will leave the humidifier tank behind when traveling. It also gives me a bit more space on the nightstand at home.

I have seen comments both ways. Personally I have never used the side plate. If I had to guess...louder.
I got a side plate and have been using it for a few weeks. It's considerably louder than with an empty humidifier. But the sound doesn't bother my sleep. I'm looking forward to the smaller footprint on a trip next week.

I don't need humidification when I travel. I travel with S10 and use the side cover. The side cover reduces the overall size when traveling but not by a substantial amount. Noise isn't much different with or without the side cover. I should add that I never use the travel bag. I just put the cpap equipment in my main travel bag and carry that bag on the plane. The side cover is well worth the approx $20 cost imho.
In fact I am trying to find out if the new 11 model will have a side cover. I need a new machine and I'm deciding between a 10 or 11 Autoset. I will choose the smaller machine because I travel a lot. If the 11 has an available side cover I will go for the 11. I'm guessing there will be a side cover but it is not available yet.

The Air 11 will have a side cover, but it looks like the side cover is another casualty of the Air 11 accessory supply chain problem.
Both the Air 11 User Guide and Clinician Guide reference the side cover. Here's a pic of the Air 11 with the side cover.

Yep Dog Slobber you have it figured out. I'll get the 11 autoset and wait for the side cover. Thank you!
