When using bipap with backup rate:
1. Can I set the backup rate pressure to a pressure higher than regular IPAP pressure?
2. If the obstructive events need low pressures, but the central events need high IPAP pressure, does bipap/st has additional IPAP pressure for the T events?
3. Is ASV better for this problem?
Bipap backup rate pressure
Re: Bipap backup rate pressure
No
No
BiPap ST has a back up rate for fixed pressures. So you get that big push whether you need it or not.
Nothing will adjust anywhere with the ST model machine. Pressure support which is what forces a breath when someone doesn't breathe on their own with central apneas can't ever vary at all. You get it with each and every breath whether you need it or not.
ASV....in auto mode...offers the ability to make use of the back up rate only when needed..if needed.
It can also auto adjust the EPAP and IPAP pressures as needed for obstructive apnea events that might be happening.
PS can also vary as needed. Lower when only addressing obstructive events and higher when addressing central apnea events.
If someone has both obstructive sleep apnea AND central sleep apnea then the ASV capable machine would work better since it can deal with both kinds of apneas independently.
The ST model machine....might be useful for central apnea only but that usually involves a high PS (difference between inhale and exhale) with EVERY breath and most people don't do well with it.
