Anyone with heart palpitations that got WORSE with CPAP????

I am a sufferer of PVC's. I have had them on and off since teen years (am 39 now). I am in good shape, walk 45min 4nites/wk, do weights, etc.

After having my baby 3yrs ago, my PVC's got worse, but not terrible. It was since I had my baby that I began to have sleep apnea, probably from relaxed soft tissue due to pregnancy (just a theory). Anyway, before I started CPAP, I had a Holter Monitor (24hrs) done, and it showed 10,000 PVC's, but they were not serious and well tolerated. But I hate them and they are so annoying!

I was of High Hopes that CPAP might help the PVC's. I have been compliant for ~1.5 months now, and am definitely more rested. But the PVC's are worse!! At first I thought it was my pressure.. my Rx said 9, but I can't tolerate anything above 7.5. I feel my best at 6.5. I do notice more awakening PVC's (almost constant) when I have my pressure higher.

Has anyone noticed this??????

I was having a fluttering heart sensation, skipping beats pre cpap i also wore a holter monitor for 24 hours and the results showed the skips. I asked my sleep doc about this and he said it could be caused by my OSA. Funny thing is after i started cpap treatment i have not noticed it anymore.

Hi. If you have had this issue since your teens, it seems as if sleep apnea didn't cause the problem (unless you've had apnea since then too). Have you had a second opinion on the holter monitor results and what should be done about them?

As far as your pressure goes, if you are using a pressure so much lower than prescribed, then you are probably having quite a few untreated events, which probably isn't making things any better. Did your titration study show any difference in the PVCs while on cpap?

Don't know your situation with insurance coverage, but it seems to me that guessing is not in your best interest. Wonder if wearing a holter monitor while using cpap at the titrated pressure is an option?

Dale- Congratulations on getting your palpitations to go away with CPAP. I had hoped that mine would too!

Kathy- Yes, you are correct. My PVC's have been around for a long time. OSA is recent and did not cause or worsen them. As a matter of fact, during my sleep study I had NO PVC's.

Since I am new to CPAP, I of course started with my rx pressure of 9cm and absolutely could not tolerate it. It made me feel like my lungs and head were inflating. So I backed it down to 8. Still bad. I ended up at 6.5 and slept pretty good there. Of course I don't have the software. I have had to buy everything out of pocket and plan on adding the software. I wish I would have found this forum before buying... I would have gotten an APAP. I have tried many times to up my pressure from 6.5. When I do, I either tear off the mask in the middle of the night (and wake up actually feeling ok), or I tolerate it, and wake up with irregular heartbeat, anxiety, and feeling weird all day long. It is almost like I have correlated it with pressures above 6.5 on my CPAP. So weird. I wonder if they got my titration too high? My initial home study showed "mild" sleep apnea, while the titration numbers, I am told, show intermediate sleep apnea.

I have never had palpitations before, but am experiencing them now after being on CPAP for about 45 days. They started soon after I started CPAP. Sometimes I think they are tied to anxiety, but I also have them when I'm feeling relaxed. I have found that drinking caffiene makes them worse.

So, I'm in the same boat. I don't know if CPAP is causing the palpitations or not.

I was just wondering if using a CPAP machine causes palpatations to get worse? I am a new user,about 2 weeks. I have had palpatations ever since I can remember but only small ones but now am having palpatations that are constant and lasting over 24 hours. Just wondering if the CPAP machine causes them to be worse.

Absolutely not, if anything it's likely to improve afib, but you need to go see a doctor asap and not ponder about Cpap. Any change in your cardiac status needs to be dealt with by a doctor, which none of us are and all is speculation here.

I have PACs and PVCs since my two ablations for a-fib but they are better when my OAS is well controlled, not worse. Cardiologists are usually unconcerned with these kinds of palps but they can be uncomfortable. I take a very low dose of metoprolol, as needed, to iron them out and this works well. You might want to discuss this with your doctor to see if it could work for you. You may find the prescribed dose to be far higher than required to control them so it's good to get the regular drug and not the extended release. This way you can cut the pills to reduce the dose to the level required to eliminate the palps and take only as required. I do this because beta blockers can have nasty side effects at higher doses so it's good to take only the amount required to fix the problem and only when you have it.

I am experiencing the same thing. After going on CPAP I am noticing severe and increasing heart palpitations.
I am going to take this up with my cardiologist. Pre-CPAP I had no issues

I have A-Fib. I found my palps improved with the Cpap not worsened. I would consult my cardiologist if I were you.

I have been using CPAP since about Nov of 2017. Its is now June 8 and i have been to the emergency room 3 times this past week, for dizziness and/or heart palps. Today i went for a holter monitor and as soon as i was called, i told the technician to check my vitals because i thought i was having a full fledged heart attack! It was the worse experience of my life! The ambulance was called, another er trip (3rd this week as mentioned) and xrays, ct scans, blood and urine were fine! No heart attack. I now have an appt with a cardiologist. And another one for holter monitor which i missed today, as mentioned. So now i read these posts. I believe the CPAP machine is still in its infancy, we are the Guinea pigs. Thanks for all the posts. I dont feel alone now. People respond here on the forum to each other, so e-mail is unnecessary unless you choose to use it after PMs with specific individuals. Just curious if anyone's ever suggested that you could possibly be having panic attacks? Some people have a problem to adjusting to wearing the mask.

The first time I was assigned a holter, the doc said to just go about my day doing what I would usually do. It came off when I was sliding into second base during my usual softball game.
