SmartStart - yes or no?
SmartStart - yes or no?
I have just returned to PAP therapy after having quit years ago. I am now on a BPAP - AirCurve 10 vAuto. I know how to get into the clinical settings and I noticed that SmartStart is turned off. Is this an option that works well and should I turn it on? I assume that my pulmonologist doesn’t have any reason for me to use or not use.
I think I am going to turn off the ramp feature since it seems like an unnecessary setting for me.

Re: Autostart - yes or no?
I like auto start ON. I think it may be off by default and I doubt your pulmonologist would know or care.
As for RAMP - I like mine OFF. Give it to me straight - give it to me now.
Of course both are a personal preference.

Re: Autostart - yes or no?
I think AutoStart and stop is a great feature. Don't have to worry about starting or stopping the machine. Put your mask on, the machine starts. Take it off, the machine shuts itself off.
I think most people choose not to use the ramp feature. It really depends on your personal need.
I hope this helps.

Re: Autostart - yes or no?
I love AutoStart - to turn it on, but not interested in the ability to turn it off.
Some have reported that occasionally there machines have been turned off and attributed it to the AutoOff feature.

I was wondering if it could turn off the machine when you don't want it to.Dog Slobber wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 9:03 amI love AutoStart - to turn it on, but not interested in the ability to turn it off.

I was wondering too if that might have been Brads problem over on the newb with exhaling issues thread.
This is an interesting thread as well. Thanks for the info.

Re: SmartStart - yes or no?
Auto OFF can/will turn the cpap off when there is a large leak. It is doing what it was asked to do thinking the mask was taken off.

Auto-on saves wear and tear on the Start/Stop button.
The rubber innards of the switch are prone to wearing out--not a user-serviced part.
Even though I usually turn it off manually, it will shut itself off after a minute or so.

If you want anyone to have a look, you might want to link, or provide a linked quote to the post. Expecting others to scroll around looking for Brads, then go find the topic, then scroll through almost a hundred posts, looking for a cause to what your hinting at is not the best way to get quality responses.

See Brads newbie with exhalation issues thread.
I don’t want to derail this one. Although it’s very much on topic.

Re: SmartStart - yes or no?
I love autostart. I found that when I used a FF mask I had to cover my exhalation port with my finger to get it to work, though. That's easier than reaching over to fumble for the button.

I love auto start. Put the mask on and breathe.
I don't use the auto-off though. I don't like the sound of the machine still running once I am finished using it.

Re: SmartStart - yes or no?
I have used the auto start feature for the last two years. I really like it I can get into bed, get situated where I want, hook the hose to the mask and exhale. The machine stats right up. Normally, I turn the machine off manually when I get up. My wife does the same thing with her machine.

Re: Autostart - yes or no?
LOL I got lots of problems!

Thank you for suggesting that. A very valid point based on the info I have shared in the past.
Since you wrote that, I have been paying attention when I wake up and see if the machine happens to be off. So far, it does not appear to be shutting down. I think I have been able to confirm that with the oscar data as well. As soon as I realize I am awake, I make sure the machine is still on by feeling the air coming out of the front vent, being aware of my breath and even touching the menu screen to see what the pressure is currently at and I take a screenshot on my phone to document the time so I can see on the oscar report if there was a machine shut down at or before that time. It has only been 2 nights, but so far I am not finding the machine to be automatically shutting down.
It's just me and my brain and a quirk while trying to adjust to all of this.
