Do you replace your CPAP mask every three months?

Post by Justin Case » Mon Oct 24, 2022 12:49 am

Today I received a marketing email from CPAP.com with this very caption. How unbelievable. I suppose this is the current trend these day. Just look at the AirSense 11 and it's really tiny filter that has a very poor efficiency rating, even their ultra fine filter is small and has a poor efficiency rating according to the YT videos online. 🤦‍♂️

Well, replacing filters is one thing, but replacing a working mask so often is just feeding landfills with more plastic!

I pay for my Cpap supplies out of pocket and don't throw away what still works well for me. I had been using my P10 mask for about 3 years when the short tube sprung a leak and i had to replace it. I have about 2 years on my current P10. I replace the headgear straps and nasal pillows about once a year.

My wife and I both switched to the F&P Evora mask recently. The F20 masks we were using were around five years old. We would change the cushion about once a year, and changed the head gear every year or so. We both believe in using things until they break, or can no longer be used. We normally don't change things just to change them or they exceed the manufacturer's expected life span. My machine has over 20,000 hours on it and still works great. I plan on using it until it quits. When it does, I have a spare machine on hand that I can use.

I don't have any coverage for CPAP or supplies. I do have backups, but no, I don't replace anything every 3 months. And when one part wears out, I replace the part, not the whole thing.

And YouTube is SO authoritative (!NOT!)!!!

I replace my foam mask (AirTouch F20) when the foam breaks it's seal, about 2-3 weeks, maybe longer.
I replace the other mask least often, (AirFit F20), those last MANY months with proper usage and cleaning.

The filter on the machine is recommended for change once a month, I do it every 2 weeks or sooner,
filters in bulk are cheap on Amazon.

I use F&P mask Vitera.... My silicone cushions last 4-6 months. The mask itself gets replaced 12-18 months. I have gone through 3 machines and have never replaced a water chamber.....I replace the hose at a year whether it needs it or not.....By the way, I am on Medicare and can replace much more frequently, but elect not to. I don't believe in replacing supplies just because you can.
