Nose bleeds and humidifier

Post by alww » Thu Nov 17, 2022 11:11 pm

Due to having nosebleeds my ENT said not to use the heat on the humidifier. that it would dry my nasal passage out even more. In discussing this with someone, they said that if I didn’t turn the heat on, then the humidifier on the CPAP was not helping anything. So, I wanted to get answers from people here. Thanks

Warm water evaporates more readily than cold water does. And the heated humidifier heats the water so more of it can evaporate into the air that is blown across the water in the humidifier tank and then into the hose.

You will get more water vapor added to the air in the tube if you turn the humidifier on.

If the humidifier heater is not on, you will get a tiny bit of water vapor added to the air, but no where near as much as if you actually turn the heater on.

In my opinion, your ENT doesn't have the foggiest idea of how a CPAP humidifier works.

Precisely.
My nose would get dry, cracked, and itchy for years.
The heated humidifier solved the problem.
Thirteen years of a nice, comfy nose, thanks to my cpap.
And your doctor don't know SQUAT!

Since I’ve quit using the heat on the humidifier I haven’t had a nosebleed. However, I think that may simply be because I am keeping my nose moist with Saline spray and AYR and that’s the reason and it’s not having the heat off. Definitely makes sense that the heat on is a good thing and the ENT is wrong. Thanks for the replies!
