Speech and swallowing problems after Inspire surgery

Post by Tongue tied » Sun Jun 25, 2023 10:49 am

So I had Inspire surgery after 20 years of using CPAP. I was excited not to have to use CPAP and carry the machine whenever I went away.
I was looking forward to not washing my equipment every morning and not to have my hair have dents etc. when I woke up.
On June 6 2023 I had Inspire surgery, and was not prepared or even told about the "side effects". I was expecting to recover in just a few days,
and wait for two small incisions to heal.
However this was not the case.
1. the pain on the right side of my head was like the worst headache I ever had. (I never get headaches) Now I get headaches almost daily.
2. swallowing liquids or food was also very painful (although this has gotten somewhat better)
3. I could not (and still cannot) control my tongue, therefore my speech is effected, and swallowing is difficult, although no longer painful. (except when I bite my tongue while trying to chew food)
I did go for a post-op visit with my physician's PA , and she felt that these symptoms will go away in time. So far nothing seems to be changing and everyday I wake up hoping my tongue will heal
If anyone has undergone this surgery and has had the same problems, please let me know if you have recovered completely and how long it took .
Thank you

Insist on talking to the doctor themselves.

So I had Inspire surgery after 20 years of using CPAP.
i'm so sorry you had to go through this. and i hope your post serves as a lesson for others.

unfortunately, this is a cpap forum, so i doubt you're going to get any feedback here on this surgery.

OR i was wrong and folk have talked about it here-

again, sorry you went through this. every time i see the commercial on tv, i want to scream and throw things at the set.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

washing my equipment every morning
You created an unnecessary problem for yourself.

Sorry about the bad results of Inspire.

Talk to your doctor about the expected recovery time.
Hopefully, there are better times ahead.
