Buying In-Person or Online Auto CPAP Machine

Post by Spill2xToasted » Mon Jul 17, 2023 3:56 pm

Hello everyone,
I have recently needed to buy a CPAP machine. I would rather buy it online since it is cheaper. But, my problem is wondering how I can calibrate the machine for the proper amount of pressure delivered of (13.0cm H2O).
Some Google results tell me that it is not advisable to mess with the settings for the pressure. And the folks at CPAP Store USA told me that they can fine tune my machine if I purchase from their store. It seems like I have no choice but to since these new CPAPs are far more advanced than the previous that I knew.
So I’m asking this forum if it’s possible for me to tune the pressure settings myself to (13.0cm H2O) if I purchase my CPAP machine online? Or who can set it for me? CPAP Store USA promised me that their Respiratory Tech could set the machine’s pressure settings myself to (13.0cm H2O) for me once I purchase in their store.

Also if it will help, I have been recommended for an Auto-Pap machine.

Thanks.

Yes you can set it yourself, not really tricky.
BUT.... how did you settle on 13 cm, was that recommended by your health care provider?

Changing your settings is easier than TikTok. The very helpful folks on this forum can help you dial in your settings so your therapy is optimized.

People can calibrate their own machine, there's excellent, free software that lets you track your results.

People with diabetes learn to calibrate their insulin usage -- and too much insulin can KILL people literally. Yet they are still taught to do it.

Many of us are here because we were unhappy with our therapy, and learned how to calibrate our machines, and many stayed because they want to help others.

Online cpap shops usually ask for your prescription, and know how to set up the machines according to the prescriptions they receive.

And, you should know that the online cpap shop that created the present forum, and lets function without any editorializing is called www.cpap.com, who have excellent customer service.

Buy whereever you want, and read the first post on this forum if you want to share your data and get opinions on it.

If you know how to set your watch, you won't have a problem setting your pressure.

As stated, you can easily set the machine yourself, most of us manage our own settings.

And, using the forum and an Auto machine, we can also help you get to your optimal settings. The 13 cm setting you're machine is being set to is likely optimum but loosely based on your sleep study.

Just being a little picky here, but using the word calibrate, has (or used to have) a specific meaning for CPAP machines that is no longer necessary. On older generation CPAPs one needed to have their device calibrated to ensure the pressure delivered was actually accurate to what it was set to. With more modern devices, calibration is no longer necessary.
