Debris in the Water Tank
After reviewing the post about contamination, here is my story.
I have been using a Resmed CPAP machine for 6 years. I have always used "Distilled" water in the tank. I also use a Soclean unit after every use.
For about 4 1/2 years, I never had ANY particulate matter in the tank.
For the last couple of years, I have been using the "after-market" Soclean filters and carbon inserts.
After cleaning my tank, about a week to ten days later, I discovered black "hard" particles in the tank in addition to black "streaks" floating in the water.
It has happened before, that black "fines" from the carbon filter (these were Soclean filters) were installed in the Soclean Machine.
I clean the tank with a bleach cleaning solution and wipe out the black residue left on the stainless steel parts.
My question is, is this residue a mold residue?
On another note, something else changed. I have noticed the gallon bottle of distilled water (usually made by boiling water,) has on the label "water may be processed by reverse osmosis" (note this does not assure you of bateria-free water.)
Has anybody had this residue analyzed?

Ditch the SoClean. It only "cleans" out your wallet.

SC is garbage and you don't want ozone fumes in your lungs! Google the residue from their filters and see if you get any hits.

It's a SoClean residue. Join the class-action lawsuit.
Sorry that you fell for this worse-than-a-scam. Here is some dated, but still relevant, information - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=176205&p=1311194&hi ... n#p1311194

Re: Debris in the Water Tank
I am amazed, I had not seen any "legal action" against SoClean as I do receive three "class action lawsuits" newsletters. I do know that SoClean has been selling SoClean 2, presumably an improvement on SoClean 1 (original) - however, it too appears to have the same problem. I would like to thank everyone's replies. I will be following this more closely.
On another note, if this is a product (carbon) residue - then maybe the "ozone" does kill the mold and bacteria....

Do you want to make bets re who'll die first - the bacteria or you?

While the foam that is used in the Resmed machine is likely formulated to withstand a normal ambient environment for a long time, a daily exposure to concentrated ozone may have the effect of breaking it down and causing pieces of it to flake off, which may possibly be what you are seeing.

Okay, I'm game. In my Resmed CPAP machine, where would I find black foam? The "air filter is white," and the tank interfaces appear to be a rubber seals.

At about the 6 minute 30 second mark you will see a black foam disk used for sound dammpening.
I'm guessing the ozone has deteriorated it.
If you're handy take it apart inspect the foam disk and remove it.
Throw your SoClean in the garbage, they're shit.
Google "ozone" and "compatibility" you will find charts describing how ozone is incompatible with many materials. Some of which are in your ResMed.

Re: Debris in the Water Tank
Well, I know what I have to do. The CPAP machine has helped me a lot. The SoClean has worked okay. I do not have a problem with the Ozone it admits, and as long as the litigation is active, I'm going to keep using it.
But, I can replace my Resmed Machine, it is covered under my insurance and it is more than five years old. When it is replaced, I will report back regarding the contamination of the water tank.

Re: Debris in the Water Tank
SoClean voids/has voided your Resmed warranty.
Look it up.
Your current machine is TOAST.
Get rid of the damn NOclean before it damages your LUNGS!
Definitely before you get a new machine.

please, please, please re-think your attitude regarding soclean. it's not "worked okay". it's causing harm and you really need to stop using it.

Re: Debris in the Water Tank
Apart from the CPAP machine which can be replaced when it is damaged from an ozone cleaner, consider your own health.....
