Help! Need answers

Post by Tomandsue » Thu Dec 07, 2023 1:11 pm

Those of you who have had very high blood 🩸 pressure and cpap was the answer, please help with what works. I have been trying for most of this year and am only getting 1-3 hours of sleep 💤 with cpap. I need the oxygen of cpap to keep my blood pressure down. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Bad cpap machine?

Post by Tomandsue » Thu Dec 07, 2023 1:18 pm

:?: Has anyone had a bad cpap machine? And if so, how did you know- were the numbers erratic, or what do I look for if it’s not working correctly?

How to be successful with cpap?

Post by Tomandsue » Thu Dec 07, 2023 1:21 pm

What do I need to do to be successful with CPAP if I don’t have a mask, moisture, or pressure problem?

Are there any other areas that I need to check to have success? Thanks 😊

Keep your posts to this one thread at least for now.
Don't go bombarding with multiple questions in multiple threads.

Going on the little info you offer, I would refuse any philips respironics machine.
Insist on Resmed--not "res-something else".

Start with understanding what CPAP is and is not.
I need the oxygen of cpap to keep my blood pressure down.
CPAP is not supplemental oxygen. It merely keeps your airway open just like the air in a balloon keeps the walls of the balloon from touching each other. That way the air that you breathe in through your nose and mouth can reach your lungs. When you have sleep apnea, the airway collapses because the muscles behind your tongue relax. Air can't get in or out. The column of air produced by the CPAP machine holdsa that area open so it won't collapse and interfere with your breathing.

When you have sleep apnea and stop breathing, your body releases stress hormones to get you to wake up and BREATHE. That's what's raising your blood pressure and putting strain on your heart. So by treating the sleep apnea by keeping your airway open, theoretically, you will not have all those stress hormones and extra work for your heart, and that may bring your blood pressure down.

However, none of this will work if you are not using your CPAP consistently.

If you "don’t have a mask, moisture, or pressure problem", then WHAT is the problem??? What is waking you up? Why are you only getting a few hours sleep? Or do you sleep without the CPAP for the rest of the night? We are not mind readers, we don't watch you sleep. So unless you give us some information we have no way to help.

CPAP machines are almost never working badly, but the settings might not be the best for you. However, unless you give us some idea of what is happening, we can't help you be successful.

We also need some information from you to be able to help. Fill out your user profile so we know what machine and mask you are using and what your settings are. Click on the sticky at the very top of the page "Sticky: Newbies PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING" and follow those directions. This is basic information to help us guide you.

Keep all your questions in THIS thread. Don't start new threads.

Answer our questions.

Some people on this list "don't suffer fools lightly" and might be rude. You are less likely to get this treatment if you answer questions we ask trying to help you, don't argue with legitimate attempts to help, you're rude to Pugsy (NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!!!), and don't ghost your own thread (we call those "drive bys and those thread often turn into a circus of snarky replies). So check back at least daily and respond to the people trying to help.
