Freedom Battery Issue for ResMed 11

Hello, so I've been doing CPAP Therapy for close to 20 years now, on my fourth machine, a ResMed 11. About 8 years ago I bought a Freedom Battery 12v in case there was a power outage, and my machine was a ResMed 10. Battery worked fine, didn't get used a bunch. Late last year my insurance final okayed a new machine, ResMed 11. A few days ago we had a power outage and I went to use the battery, but of course the power connector for the ResMed 11 is different. Been trying to find a cord adapter to use the Freedom 12v with my ResMed 11, but the 12v has been discontinued for some time and they now have a Freedom V2 24v that uses a USB C connector.

Has anyone come across this issue and is there an adapter out there for the older Freedom Battery? I tried tracing down the Battery Power Solution company that makes the Freedom battery, but I haven't found anything. Was given a phone number by my CPAP supply company but of course it's disconnected.

Any help would be appreciated. These things are so expensive, I really don't want to drop down another $400.

The Freedom v1 if not mistaken had an adapter you could connect to the output that was a 12v cigarette lighter socket, so you could plug in anything 12v you wanted (that didn't draw too many amps) including a DC-DC voltage converter like I have for my Airsense 10. If this was a thing you could still get, or find a compatible substitute for it, you could get the voltage converter for the 11 machine and connect it up possibly. It may be more trouble than it's worth but for me I would not feel comfortable without a DC-DC converter for any Airsense machine. The DC-DC converter is an accessory I would have on hand anyway.

Try and get the part number for ease of searching, you never know who might have one on a shelf waiting to be sold

Incidentally The Freedom v2 also has a cigarette lighter adapter with the USB-C connector on one end. I haven't tried it but I have one.

This is one of the many reasons I always advise to just get a Resmed 10 replacement. After all the supplies and accessories you already have fit the 10. Most here seem to agree.

Big fan of the 10... 11 not so much. I have not used the 11, just from reports... and from the great use I've had out of two AS10's.

OK... It's a proven performer, out for about a decade... the 11 is fairly new. The 10 has an easier to fill water tub, the 11's tub can tip over during filling. The 10 has a right-angle hose that comes out the side... the 11 takes a different hose that sticks straight out the back... who ordered *that*? The 11 has a rounded profile, making tipping it forward easier... not good when combined with the over-the-front house routing. The motor in the 11 is the smaller, whinier motor from the AirMini travel CPAP... since this motor is noisier, the machine has a *lot* of noise abatement foam in it... foam is a problem in CPAP machines we've found. The modem is built into the main board, there is no updating or removing it... the 10's modem is on a separate board and can be completely removed, for those wanting the ultimate in un-hackability, or to protect your data from Big CPAP. The firmware in the 11 is updatable over the cellphone... Resmed has already had problems with bugs introduced by these updates, the MyAir app was broken for over a month by this. There have been recalls related to the heating of the water tub... the tub itself has a round metal plate instead of a square one, arguably a harder assembly to seal. The 11 is about 30% lighter... I believe that something you want to stay on the nightstand should be heavy, not light! The carry bag for travel is not significantly different in size from the 10's... the slightly smaller size and lighter weight to not equate to a travel advantage. And finally, the Airsense 10 without the modem (the card-to-cloud version) is selling right now for less than half the price of an 11 (remember the modem cannot be left out as an option)... cpap dot com has them for 449$... I bought mine back in November when the Black Friday sale was going on, I paid 399$. When I got the new one I took the old machine apart and replaced the motor/blower (130$ on Amazon) and clock battery (solder-in) and thoroughly cleaned it... then I put it back in service and put another 400 hours on it... no problems at all... I expect it to run another 22,000 hours (there is a 'motor life exceeded' message then) before service again. *The only advantage* that I've heard about is that the touch screen is silent when you want to change settings at night with a sleeping bed partner nearby... and how often do you do *that*? I'm tired of typing this so often, I'm going to email myself this text so I have it to quote!

So my ResMed 10 was over 8 years old. Originally my insurance said they couldn't replace it till it broke down. I was like, well what do I do if it does break down? A little while later my screen said the motor had outlasted its service limit, which meant now the insurance would cover a new CPAP. I still have my ResMed 10 but the motor is probably going to break down sometime. I had to get it replaced.

Also, the whole point of my posting was asking about battery advice, not discussing which CPAP is better.

The motor can be replaced so you have a backup unit that's more reliable. I haven't done it but I have one on deck i will be replacing.

I think that cigarette lighter adapter is a pretty common item, you would just need to match the barrel connector size and polarity, loads of them out there with all different sizes of connector.

As to the unit itself 10 vs 11, if I needed to replace my AS10 it would need to be a "for her" model I would be after. Only used ones still around these days - if shopping new the AS11 would be my only choice with the algorithm I like. Not ideal due to the "Appleization" of these things, always changing connectors to make a buck as they do.

As I stated before, the choice wasn't mine to make, it was dictated by what my insurance would cover.

Hello, I was wondering if you found the correct adapter to use with your Freedom CPAP battery? I am in the same boat! Have had my Freedom Battery for about 7 years, and now using a REsmed Airsense 11 machine. I don't want to spend $$ on a new battery, as the Freedom is working great. Thank you.

FWIW..... I don't have a battery for my CPAP's (DreamStation 2 and an AS10). I do have a 'Portable Power Station' (lithium battery with a pure sine wave inverter) that I've used a couple times to power the CPAP when we had a power outage. It powers the CPAP overnight easily (not using the humidifier) and probably could get a second night if needed. Have not used it for camping, but have read of others that do. The CPAP's power adapter simply plugs into the AC out of the power station, so no issues with odd connectors that the CPAP may have. The portable power station can be used to power other things as well which I've done on occasion when AC power wasn't handy. It does have limits as to what it can power depending on it's output rating.
